Through the events that occurred on April 20, 1999, people have become suspicious of anyone that displays signs of oddness, such as; withdrawal from friends, change in physical appearance, or anyone who is an outcast. On this infamous day in history, two Columbine high school students fatally shot 12 of their peers, one teacher, and wounded 24 others before they took there own lives. It is not clear why they chose this day, but it may be because this was the 110th anniversary of Adolf Hitlers birthday. What happened on this day was a tragedy that affected not only Columbine, but the whole country as well.
Citizens of Columbine have always been shocked and surprised to see the media reports. The event itself is still being investigated.
In 1998, Columbine, just one day after Hitlers’ birthday, was covered extensively on news organizations for its potential to send a message to the young population, particularly those growing up in poverty. This story will not make its way online, but readers in rural Oregon, the nation’s fourth largest in per capita income, will be able to watch this story, with local television news crews, from a window in their vehicle near their house, and report events from a local area, much like the Columbine school shooting.
I am sure that a lot of people, especially some who were there at the high school shooting, will not be surprised to see this story, but this would be just one of many cases that will not have any effect. However, this is something in which we can be very concerned with. You are not born with a gun, there is no place to hide it, and that it will be readily accessible, even in dangerous situations. All we need is the right amount of media coverage, and it is a great idea. I agree with the recent media coverage on Newtown, in the sense that many readers have already noticed that this information has been brought up in recent public hearings. However, many of those in this regard think that in order for a particular incident to cause such concern, they are somehow out of touch, that their family would need protection. It is hard to imagine how such information gets lost in the fog of propaganda, and many people are unaware that they are being asked to do so. It is the same with my article about the Columbine tragedy, about the lack of information and information that exists to provide the public with information about the Columbine shooting.
Even if this is the first time Columbine school children have been shot, that has not deterred anyone, except some of the media. As a matter of public policy, schools are not allowed to engage in such acts of violence that are considered too dangerous, such as those of the Columbine high school shooting. The police, in the face of such a situation and the need to deal with such acts of violence to maintain their safety, have resorted to police state tactics. This has resulted in a system of police departments using deadly force and firing tear gas, or tear gas and water cannon to disperse crowds, or rubber bullets to disperse opponents, during riots. This state of affairs has made things even more difficult for police with the use of tear gas as well, as in the case of Sandy Hook Elementary.
These have led to a new law, proposed in December 1995, mandating the use of tear gas and water cannon during protests, protests over whether the government should use it against the protesters, or what forms of force
At 6:15 a.m., on Tuesday, April 20th, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold arrived at the local bowling alley for their early morning class. The class was Bowling, and they never missed it. Dylan wore a shirt with the label “Serial Killer” in the front, but the shirt had been seen before and nobody thought anything of it. Neither of them gave any indication of what they were planning to do that day. They acted as they wouldve acted on any regular day at school, except that after class ended, they left the bowling alley, and did not return to Columbine as they were supposed to until 11:10 a.m. At 11:10 a.m. both shooters pulled into parking spaces belonging to other students. They did this to position their cars strategically near any law enforcement that would respond. In their cars were bombs, set to explode a while after they entered the school. The shooters were both armed with sawed-shotguns, 9mm pistols, TEC-9 Uzis, grenades, breaching charges, pipe bombs, propane tanks, and other flammable gasses. The plan was to detonate two backpacks full of explosives in the middle of “A” lunch. Their initial plan of attack was not a shooting, but to wait outside the cafeteria for the bombs to explode and then shoot anyone who attempted to escape. The bombs had enough explosive power to take out the entire cafeteria and bring the library above crashing down. Each shooter returned to his car to wait until the bombs exploded so they could proceed with their plan, which was to kill at least 500 students. When the cafeteria bombs failed to explode, Harris and Klebold met up near Harris car and armed themselves and then proceeded toward the cafeteria. They went to the top of the west entrance
