Do movies, TV shows, and video games cause violence?
You think you know the answer to the question well your wrong. There are some researchers looking for the answer to the very question. Do movies, TV shows, and video games cause violence? Yes they certainly do. But you dont have to take my advice here are some researches you might have missed. Do violent movies affect people? The researchers for Virginia Tech did a study on violent movies, and they were shocked at what they discovered. “The researchers were surprised at the strong effect of the media violence on the response of non-provoked people (Sally Harris, Science from Virginia Tech)”. They werent the only ones surprised when I came across it I was totally stunned. Now those were adults but what about children? According to this research from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; “The typical American child will view more than 200,000 acts of violence, including more than 16,000 murders before they turn 18” (Eugene V Beresin, M.D, American Academy of Child and Adolescents Psychiatry). That piece of information also stunned me. Not to mention they also found this out. “While the causes of youth violence are multifactorial and include such variables as poverty, family psychopathology, child abuse, exposure to domestic and community violence, substance abuse and other psychiatric disorders, the research literature is quite compelling that childrens exposure to media violence plays an important role in the etiology of violent behavior” (Eugene V Beresin, M.D, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry). Makes perfect sense. Not to mention this piece of research. “These films with gratuitous violence make people less civil, more willing to say things in a meeting or in a classroom that were inappropriate a few years ago. It seems tied to the role models seen and the lessons learned from different types of films (sally Harris, Science from Virginia Tech). That explains why some students act bad in class. On the other hand there are also violent TV shows out there. Take a moment and answer this question how many hours do you think youre children or even you spend watching TV? “Some parents believe that sending their children to watch TV as a mean of escape they may get more than they bargained for (Shannon OHara, The Daily).” A bit shocking dont you think? Not to mention According to this article TV is violent. “One fact should not be disputed: TV is violent! Guns, shootings, murders, hitting,
