Poverty and Globalization Referring to the lecture 2 notes on page 4, poverty is “the lack of basis necessities that all human beings should have.” Poverty is not having the basic needs in life, such as food, shelter, and clothing. Poverty is worldwide issue that is increasing in numbers everyday. Poverty is relentless at any age, however it is particularly devastating for a child being raised in a low-income family. Unlike adults, children have no way of escaping poverty, and have to accept their living conditions. There are many countries that are suffering in poverty, which many people aren’t even aware of. Africa is one of the top countries in the world suffering poverty. Most people in Africa live on less than a dollar a day. Young children are forced to work in dangerous mines, so they have enough money to feed themselves and their families. Big companies are making millions by paying little to nothing to these children supplying labor. The concept of globalization is very appealing, but it requires countries coming together as one. Globalization is a process of interaction between all nations, including people, companies, and governments. People of all nations need to understand how globalization works in order for it to be implemented correctly. One country alone can’t make a difference and help the poor. Poverty is a worldwide issue, and should be addressed by all countries. Those who truly believe in ending world poverty need to change their thoughts into actions. If we all come together, rich or poor we can change the living conditions of those in poverty.
