english essayOnce there were five friends, names of whom were Jack, Joe, Robert, Sophie and Laura (whom of which were sisters). They went to school with each other, and grew up together from a very young age. The day they went on the train, everything changed.

On the 19th February 1996, the friends decided that they should have a day out, without their parents, as they thought they were old enough now to go out by themselves. They arranged to go on this particular date, and all of them persuaded their parents to let them out without parental guidance. Jacks mum thought this was odd, as he had never asked for such a thing. She complained that he had never even seen a couple of streets away from his house, and now he wanted to go on an adventure with his friends on a train journey. He argued back, and kept arguing till she said yes. Joe also did the same; however he took a more sweet approach to the situation, and offered to help with the household chores. He then slipped the question in of going with his friends, as he put the last plate away from the dishwasher. His parents Jill and Matthew just couldnt refuse him, as he was a bit of a spoilt child. Moving onto Robert, well he was from a very wealthy background, and when he slipped his question, his mother said, “Why not takes the butler? He will take care of you on your adventure.” This made Robert feel very childish and he shouted at her, and said, “I am going, no matter what you say.” His mother was disgraced, and the head of the family, his father took a calm approach and said, “Let him go, hes growing up now.” This put the cherry on top, and Robert was all set to go. Sophie and Laura who were known as “Daddys girls” were just told they could go, and given a bundle of notes to spend on this unknown adventure. So everyone was sorted and they set themselves up for the day out the next day.

The plan was to meet up in the centre of where everyone lived, which was known as “The big old tree.” The next day, they met up at 7:00 a.m. sharp and chose that they should nominate a leader. Now this was a hard decision as everyone wanted to be the leader. However Jack being the alpha male clearly spoke and said, “I think I should be the leader because I want too!” This was said loudly and clearly and no-one dared go against him. So the leader was chosen (not really chosen, more like self nominated), and they set off for the train station. As the friends were walking, they were talking about the usual stuff, football and sports for the boys, and the girls were jus following along. They reached the train station specifically 27 minutes later and decided where to go. They had to pay for tickets no matter what, or did they? Jack, the mischievous one, planned on not buying tickets and spending the money elsewhere. He then told everyone the plan and made sure everyone co-operated. They jumped the barriers when the train guards werent looking and hopped onto any train they thought looked nice. This was silly, as they wouldnt know where they were going and how to get back, however this was just an adventure and they werent really bothered, well at least most of the friends werent. The train set off and the adventure began. They chose to sit in first class and pretend one of the grumpy old men was their grandfathers, just in case they got caught for not having a ticket. The refreshment trolley came along, and Jack was the first to jump up at it. He bought many things and shared with his friends. They all chipped in some money afterwards and made up for the costs.

As they approached the next station, one man said to them, “Arent you a bit young to be by yourself on this big train?” Jack rudely replied, “Mind your own business you old fool!” The older man was offended majorly and left the carriage.
