Jermika JerniganLydia GilmoreBMGT 11029/17/17 Reflection 1: Thoughts on Awareness and TrustAwareness is the knowledge of a situation or fact. Many people put a lot of thought into their surroundings. It is a part of human nature, a defense mechanism of sorts. Awareness is and indicator of dangers and triumphs for the situations one may find themselves in from time to time. A deeper concept for one to ponder is Self-Awareness. Self-Awareness is the ability to have a clear perception of your personality. This include being able to judge one’s own thoughts and beliefs but more importantly being able to self-diagnose one’s strengths and weakness.Every human has four endowments- self-awareness, conscience, independent will, and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom … the power to choose, to respond, to change. – Stephen R. Covey The quote above is interesting because not all people can delve deep into self-awareness. There are so many factors involved. Self-Awareness doesn’t just involve self. You must consider your relationships with others. One may have to develop and nurture relationships for work and home, while also devising plans for continuous improvement and self-preservation. Ways to improve self-awareness is observe yourself objectively or meditate, write out your devised planned goals to keep yourself grounded by taking psychometric tests, keep a journal for documentation, and perform a self-review for feedback. Self-analysis goes hand in hand with improvement. It allows you to take a step back and judge your strengths and weaknesses. It can be hard because no one wants to admit to anyone that they have weak areas in their personality, and even worse to face a hard truth to themselves. Tools to use when working on self-analysis, may be keeping yourself aligned spiritually. Keep daily spiritually diary noting how many good actions you have done, what mistakes you have committed during a day, and in the morning, resolve the issues. (Sivananda) Perception is the ability to see, hear or become aware of something through the senses. It is agreed that perception can be learned by your first environment with your parents. Perception is inmate and infants naturally perceive the importance of environmental information.Perception can be drastically different from individual. This will affect how people react to situations. For example, Colin Kaepernick’s perception of the National Anthem is that his perception of wrongdoings against African Americans and minorities in the United States. “I am not going to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.” (Wyche). He had discussed his feelings with his family which may be an argument for how his perception was developed through family influence.
