American Global Company StrategyAs an American global company, Starbucks is the biggest coffee company with 20,891 stores in 62 countries, which could be compared to McDonald in the food chain. Starbucks started its operation in the UK in 1998. Before its entrance in UK, soluble and instant coffee was in a much a more dominant position than roasted, ground, real coffee. After that, the coffee culture in UK was rapidly changed to ā€˜a decent cup of coffeeā€™ (Spectator, 13th Nov, 2013), such as the roast and ground coffee, and premium instant coffee. Starbucks focuses on not only the customer service and better environment but also do a lot of research and development to analyze the UK coffee market, different age groupsā€™ coffee-drinking habit, the target customersā€™ requirement and the most potential coffee category. Such as, before launching VIT premium instant coffee, they clearly understand the instant coffee accounted for 80% of the UK total coffee sales. Additionally, although the market of instant coffee goes on rising, the most potential one is ā€˜ the roast and ground categoryā€™ (Academic Integrity personal statement, 2010). It employs 7,500 employees in UK in 2011 and will employ more according to the presidentā€™s statement on their official website. In 2012, even after the scandal of tax avoidance in the end of 2011, it still enjoyed the second largest market of 28.5% market share with 757 stores next to Costa, 44.1% market share and 1,287 stores. (Hospitality & catering news, 4th, Jan, 2013).

Talking about the scandal of boycott, it happened because of tax avoidance during the time of preparing further expansion and promotion in the second half year of 2011. Since the business started in UK in 1998 till 2011, there was approximately Ā£3.1 billion profit, however the tax paid was just Ā£8.5 million. In addition, there is no tax at all in the last 3 years from 2009 to 2011 by transferring the profit to other country, like Netherland. Thus 40 stores were protested by UN uncut organization. The protesters shouted that 74% of 15 billion benefits were taken away from women income, connecting companiesā€™ economical behavior with political and social levels. According to Elson (Conversion, 11th, Nov, 2012), women have multi-layer duties in society, such as unpaid family care and paid social career. However, women are much disadvantageous than men in society based

The protest in support of change was led by the Nandiswami community, who are of African nature. They take solidarity with the struggle for social justice. Their support, such as from the NGOs and the UN, is being exploited for political gain. They are the ones that were part of the boycott, since this causes economic damage in the local economy. As the petition states, women are often discriminated like boys from the other parts of society.

In order to put the matter in perspective the main part of women are the mothers, because the mother is also the primary producer of the children in society.

In a statement of the protest, the Unesco stated:

“I want to draw a parallel of the situation in India but with the exception of the case of women, the situation in the country is much like that in the UK and no women are working as a part of public service in the UK, which is about the right to women. In fact, the UN called for the end of the gender division, which was a key point in the US boycott”.[p>http://www.indiaspend.org.uk/board/index.php?/topic/86743.0]

On behalf of the Nandiswami community, which have been involved in the protest for more than 3 weeks, the UN has demanded the cancellation of the Women’s National Council (WNK) convention and women’s conference in India, due to an unspecified “social justice project”. Unofficial statement from the UN on this matter by UN secretary General Ban Ki-moon:

“UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called on the leaders of the World Association of Women in 2011 to suspend the Women’s Commission to investigate the UN’s 2012 action on the boycott.

“In response to the UN’s decision to ban the convention in November, the Nandiswami’s Union of Unions and Unions of Women led a united protest in support of the boycott in the UK, demanding the cancellation of the women’s commission which is due to open in London in October or November. This move has the effect of legitimating the status quo and of creating a new and dangerous caste system.

“The Nandiswami community are calling upon the UN to reject participation in the World Association of Women in 2012 without respect to the human rights issue.”

In response to the latest UN Security Council decision, the UN Security Council (UNSC) has proposed to take measures limiting the influence of UN member organizations and to exclude all women and groups from official international leadership positions.

In a statement the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York:

“I am also convinced that the Women’s Commissioner should be completely removed from the UN’s position after this year’s announcement that the international committee on the promotion of women in science and culture was not allowed to hold in its chairmanship a number of meetings. This report was based on what I learned about some of these meetings, but it seems to me that there could be more to come.

“As with other world leaders, women who are elected to UN bodies have been systematically marginalized and discriminated against. But there must always be a democratic process but the UN should not have any power to legislate by the law.

“If the UN can’t manage this procedure, it should go into
