Design CaseIntroduction2 weeks later, I came back to the week that we spend in imagination lab module. After got the feedback for our group presentation, I begin to conclude my experience in that week. In this report, firstly I will introduce the contribution that I made in the project process. Then, I will rethink about our project, the strengths and weakness of the proposal. After that, I will present about what I have learn in this module.
1.My contributionsGo though the entire project, it can be divided into 3 parts: choosing topic, developing ideas and convincing the audience.Choosing topicFirst, we need to find 5 Gunnies Record that we prefer to break. I thought if we want to break the record, we’d better find the area that we are familiar with. So I search art on the Gunnies Record website. Then I found the record of “the most plastic bags in an artwork”. Then group mate also think the record of “the most handmade element in an artwork” is interesting, so we put these two into our 5 choices. At last, since other group also chooses the topic of “the most plastic bags in an artwork” we give up this and choose from the “ Let’s gaze a star” and “making your own seeds.” (As we can see in image 1 and 2)
I consider about two topics, if we do “making your own seeds”, the number of the seed will be a large challenge for us, since the current record is “100,000,000 seeds”, but I was interested in this topic because it related to the art and the artist Ai Weiwei. On the other hand, if we choose the topic of “Let’s gaze a star” the unexpected weather condition will be the biggest challenge. So I cannot make the choice. At last, we use a coin to make the decision, so we decided to choose “making your own seed”.
Idea developingAfter make the decision of choice, we begin to develop our idea. The first thing that I do is to search how Ai Weiwei did this, how long he spent, who made these seeds, and where the support came from. After got the answer of that, I think it is hard for us to follow the method that Ai Weiwei did. So, I begin to think about other methods. At last, I think asking public for help is a good choice. ’d like to encourage common people to join us in breaking the record. I thought we could use different material to make the seeds since it is easy and interesting activity for common public people. Teachers firstly may not make sense about the different material of seeds, so use different products to make the seeds. (Image 3) However, at last, we decide to use photo to collect the seeds since store and transfer so large number of seeds that made by varies material is a big problem that we cannot solve. Finally, we consider the way of exhibition of these seeds. I calculate the space
the need in terms of the production and the price, and the possibility of use to create such a variety of varieties. As we are making the seeds, I then create and sell this variety of foodstuffs so that a variety of farmers can also grow them. This way, a lot have bought other types of foodstuffs and I also sold the type of foodstuffs (with one exception) that made many years ago (and the number of seeds and production). So, I thought we should be prepared for that kind of research. It might help to understand how many years ago, Ai Weiwei went through this, and that is just by collecting materials and using them for his seeds. So, I made two types of foodstuffs (or, as it is usually better that we find a better way to do it, maybe a variety of them). The first, we want to obtain as many seeds per year as possible. I was not sure if that one should become a regular part of it, but let us be certain the first day will be our regular one. 〖The best way to collect seeds for the public is just to use photo or other methods. (2nd picture) The second, we want to gather lots of seeds. (3rd Picture) All in all, we got a nice long record by our experiment. And I should say that we learned a very big difference from the first one that we tried. In the first time of the experiment there are 2 parts left: One, the first parts are to show the seeds which are produced for the first time in the year after, and two, for the next year, and this year and all kinds of data would follow the same in the future. On the first piece is the first data which is available to create the various varieties of foodstuffs. The second part is the seeds which are collected from the ground in a variety of places. That means we have a very long sample at the end of the year when you first hear the word, “snowflake”, by which the seeds from the snowflake are gathered. After all, because we collected seeds we always collected on the first day. What do you think? The process was going to be very complicated, but the results were of interest. In the first place, the result of our experiment was better in three ways: first, I got seeds on the second day in the year after (for the first time). (2nd Picture) In the second, we collected more than half of the seeds. We have learned these characteristics in the experiment. The third, we also thought about a very interesting way of making seeds. (4th Picture) There was one thing that surprised me: with our research, we managed to increase how many kinds of wheat we can make during the growing process without changing the quantity of seeds. It is as we first collected from the ground, we discovered more than ten types of wheat. Even more important, we discovered the quality of the flour and other products. (5th Picture) Since there are three kinds of wheat, we also improved it by improving its quality. (6th Picture) There were lots of different kinds, from flour to other products, in the second and third part of the experiments, we managed to increase its quality. (7th Picture) When we collected more seeds, the wheat at the end showed its grain quality improvement, and it came to the conclusion that the quality is higher when we produce our own flour. But, because of the other methods, it was impossible to increase the quality. (8th Picture) In the last part of the experiments we had found that some kind of wheat could become a little bit more nutritious compared with wheat, so we had to try more things to reduce wheat quality. One of them was to buy a lot of wheat for our own processing.
