Fair Is Foul and Foul Is FairEssay title: Fair Is Foul and Foul Is FairIn the tragedy, Macbeth by William Shakespeare, the paradoxical theme of “Fair is foul, and foul is fair” functions throughout the play. The line is a prophecy which one thing seems like another. It implies especially to the characters that they are not as they seem to be.
The Three Witches are the ones who introduce the paradox that runs throughout the play. The theme affects these characters because although they speak of the future, they do not seem to affect the course of it. They are the agents of fate because they only speak of the truth of what will happen. Macbeth refers to the Witches as the Weird Sisters. In fact the word “Weird” comes from an old English word “wyrd,” which means “fate.” In Macbeths case, the prophecies serve only to suggest the future, not to affect it. They do not predict that he will commit murder to become king but only that he will become king. For example, they all hail Macbeth as king by saying, “All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!” Even if the witches were extant, Macbeth would have somehow become king because of fate. With the Witches, Banquo has just the opposite case because he did not actively act upon their prediction that he will be the father of kings. Despite his inaction, the prophecy becames true. The Witches themselves are corporally a paradox because of their ambiguous and confusing appearance. Banquo describes the Witches’ appearance to Macbeth by saying, “So withered, and so wild in their attire, That look not like th’ inhabitants o’ th’ earth And yet are on ‘t? You should be women, And yet your beards forbid me to interpret That you are so.” Macbeth also remarks that they “seem’d corporal” and yet they vanish like “bubbles into the air.”
The paradoxical theme affects Macbeth’s by turning his life upside down. Macbeth is not the person he is as he seems. He is introduced as a warrior hero, whose fame in the battlefield wins him the honor from King Duncan. However, his ambitions are made clear when he reveals his inner emotions and thoughts. One example is when Macbeth says, “I am settle and bend up Each corporal agent to this terrible feat. Away, and mock the time with fairest show. False face must hide what the false heart doth know.” Macbeth knows that the act of killing Duncan is morally wrong and even agonizes over the idea of killing someone who loves him as much as Duncan does, yet decides that he will do it anyway. Macbeth says that if he thought he was the only one with the most power, he could not change his entire worldview. However, it appears that Duncan is a perfect example of the fallacy of the paradox: he must lie to bring about this lie, just to bring his children into being, even if only if he means to change his position on the throne in his absence. Duncan is unable to do that under any circumstances.
Macbeth’s second line of reasoning goes like, „To get ahead, all the while you’re trying to force him to do something else‣
“What do I want to do? I’m not going to go. If he is already on the throne, if he should get ahead of me, I’ll go. I don’t want to see me die.”
When Macbeth says this, the line ends. The paradox of how he will be on the throne is more difficult to understand since his future has not yet been announced.
Macbeth is no longer a pawn for a lie-mongering organization. However, his true name is ″Malcolm’.
Macbeth uses this to explain his actions on Terra, the new headquarters for Prince Harold. Unfortunately, his mother has left him at the conclusion of Terra’s war against the Imperium, leaving the Queen with little or no choice when he finally chooses to join her family.
In an unrelated but interesting twist, Macbeth’s father is also not as smart as him and prefers to play by Prince Henry’s rules, meaning that he uses him as a bully.
This has also been described in the Dragon Magazine as both a myth and an example of a clever and cruel way of playing politics.
In the Game Boy Color version, there’s a section titled “Macbeth. A liar.” While the original game’s title for it was “Macbeth,” that’s how it was initially described. The game ended with Macbeth’s father being slain in action (more on this on an upcoming note) but with his new name being revealed, it was revealed that the world of Dragon is set somewhere in the future where he is.
Macbeth’s father appears in the game as Malcolm with his two younger brothers, while his twin brother, who is not named Malcolm, is present as Mal in the game as well.
McDonald Macbeth appears as a double threat to Duncan Malcolm. When Macbeth declares he can create a new world in his father’s name, Duncan is horrified and then becomes much more aggressive in retaliation. Macbeth, on the other hand, is a good man who is actually angry at Malcolm over the fact that Duncan has become a threat that no one believes him to be. Macbeth eventually makes it his mission to eliminate Duncan and win back the crown. However, he is able to do so only by killing Malcolm and then convincing Malcolm that he killed him.
