Stress can have both positive and negative effects. Individual may lack motivation and a desire for inclination in the absence of a brief stress. However prolonged exposure to stress can have devastating effect. So we need to restore equilibrium quickly when we are exposed to some long lasting stressors. Development of resiliency helps to handle stress that cannot be eliminated. Resiliency means power or ability to return to the original form. (dictionary.reference.com) Developing resiliency helps us to recover readily from the negative effects of stress and manage and cope with difficult and unexpected situations. According to an investigation, high resiliency was seen in some children who were brought up in abusive, alcoholic or mentally ill parent circumstances who later grew into healthy, well functioning individual. (Mastern & Reed, 2002). Personal resiliencies in those children help them overcome their negative circumstance and they could rise above and develop themselves. Thus developing resiliency help manage stress.

Resiliency can be developed by bringing balance in various aspects of life. Certain degree of life balance can be achieved by engaging in physical, social, intellectual, family, cultural, spiritual and work activities. When individual engage on these dimensions of life, they develop various skills to cope with stress. However, the involvement in each activity should be relatively balanced. We should not focus exclusively on activities that bring stress. Involvement in different activities helps to be productive, less stressed, have refreshed and relaxed mind, be creative and think on different perspectives.

There are three components of resiliency: Physiological resiliency, psychological resiliency and social resiliency. These resiliencies can be developed in following ways:
