Shaka was one of the most influential and important figures in African history. He was a ruler of the Zulu kingdom, who reigned between the years of 1816-1828. He is known as a fierce ruler with a fist of iron. He made many military and social innovations, however he was also accused of using a lot of brutality to squash rebellion.

The Taiping Rebellion was a civil war which took place in China in 1850-1864. It was based on the idea of the overthrow of the ruling Qing dynasty. Hong Xiuquan led this rebellion. Sadly, over 20 million people died in the ensuing conflicts. The rebels had at one point 30 million troops. They attempted to change society.

The French Revolution was a history defining overthrow of the ruling government in France in the 1790s. The people became fed up with how the clergy and nobles were treated as first class citizens. They began to revolt, and eventually a new secualr government was instituted. However this new reign was even more bloody- the Reign of Terror it was called. Under the rule of Maxmillion Robespierre, there was an increase in executions of anyone suspected of even thinking of siding with the old way of life. However a few good things came out of it such as that they outlawed slavery, which did lead to the other slaves being inspired and leading revolts.

Simon Bolivar was a military and political leader of Venezuela. He liberated many of the South American nations from Spanish rule. He lived from 1783-1830. In 1819 he gathered supplies and men and overthrew the governments.
