While pregnant, healthy diet is important to make sure the womb gets all its nutrient to develop. An increase intake of vitamins such as A, B1, B2, C, D and folate will be beneficial. All women while pregnant should always gain weight, women who gain less gain then recommended have more chances of having low birth weight infants. Every women is different and the amount to gain depends on the women’s height and weight before she was pregnant. According to their body max index, women that are “underweight” recommend to gain about 28-40 lbs. “normal weight” 25-30 lbs. and “overweight” about 15-20 lbs. A change in diet is needed to make sure women gain weight during this phase. About 300 calories, 60mg of protein, 1200mg of calcium, 15mg of folate, and 30 mg additional daily requirements. Some tips to make it easier to reach these extra calories would be to carry snacks and fruits, eat at night, and increase your consumption of milk and juices.One of the best thing that you can do for your baby and yourself is eating healthy. Making the right choices in your diet will help your baby grow and develop smoothly. Some of the essential food groups that pregnant women should eat more include protein, calcium, iron, vitamin C, and Folate acid. Protein help the growth of fetal tissue and include food such as lean beef, chicken, and pork. Calcium assist in creating strong bones and teeth and include food such as milk, eggs, and yogurt. Iron helps prevents anemia and premature delivery, and can be found in food like red meat, fish and poultry. Another essential micronutrient that helps support normal growth and protects tissue from damage vitamin C. Finally, folate acid is important to take during your pregnancy and is needed to prevent neural tube defects in the baby. Folate acid also known as folate is a B vitamin that also create red blood cells and help develop the baby’s brain and spinal cord.
