Within a lifetime there are many decisions you have to make. In my lifetime there have not been many big decisions but I have always been reminded that choices you make now will affect you forever. My family has always taught me that you may have only one chance to make the right choice, so choose wisely. Most of the time my father will tell me that I have to make my choice by what my heart tells me and what I believe is right. Some character choices in this story show this all too well.
The whole story starts with a letter from Uncle Howard states that his wife will be coming in to town. During the time frame this story is set in mail is very slow and Uncle Howard had not sent his letter to Clark until the very last minute. When Clark reads his letter he realizes that his aunt will be in town the next day, showing how bad Uncle Howard’s decision could have turned out. If Uncle Howard had sent his letter just a day later, or Clark had not been home, the letter would have not been received in time.
A second choice made by a character was made before these events ever took place. The decision was a joint decision made by both Aunt Georgiana and Uncle Howard. In their earlier days Aunt Georgiana and Uncle Howard wanted to be married, but Aunt Georgiana was almost nine years older that Uncle Howard and he did not have very much money. Their families did not approve on a marriage and the couple reacted. Aunt Georgiana and Uncle Howard responded to their family’s disapproval by eloping.
