Leaders Case
Why am I a leader? In order to call yourself a leader you need to understand what a leader is. A leader is someone who can influence other people within a group. A leader has many different assets which include, time management, communication, determining a goal. A leader has to be able to keep a group together through the good and the bad, an maintain solid relationships with one another. As a group we chose three different theories to talk about. The first theory we selected was, “I plan to know how to influence people so skillfully that they will gladly follow me”. The second theory we are going to discuss is “I plan to be appointed or elected leader of every group I belong to”. Then the final third theory being discussed is “I plan to learn the goal and relationship skills required for groups to function effectively”.
Within the group we have all gathered the information on how these theories affect us as individuals. From there we implemented different plans until we came up with one final one for each theory that will enhance each person’s abilities to reach their own leadership heights.
As a group in theory one, we decided that being skilled at knowing how to influence people to gladly follow your lead could be uncomfortable for those of us who are not very outgoing or charismatic. Some of us tend to be more laid back and try not to bother or persuade others to see things like we see them. We just feel that everyone is entitled to think and feel however they choose, it is not our place to say any differently. This seems to put those of us who are like this, in a position to not be very influential.
However, there are those of us who are outgoing, charismatic and enjoy communicating with, and helping others by trying to find solutions to their problems. These persons are trusted by the group because they show that they are working diligently for the overall success of the group. So when it comes to groups that need a leader that will know how to influence others to follow them, it is important to get people to trust you with their concerns and well-being.
For those of us who are challenged with this, we do find that this may be very difficult for us to grasp as a personal plan. But we have decided that to learn these skills we will be more like our group members who do well with influencing others. We will try to speak up more in group meetings. We will be a more positive influence to each other within the group. We will not only learn to show more concern about other member’s issues, but we will act upon our concerns and offer solutions to help with those issues. If we do not have a solution we will go a step further to seek out a solution. Then we can gain the trust of our group because they will know that we will do whatever it takes for the success of the group and they will be glad to follow our lead.
To be a good leader it takes planning. In theory two as a group we decided
