Good afternoon teachers,
What is image? “Image is an abbreviated way of
communicating; it conveys more then just the
meaning of words or the sum of visual parts”
image and its techniques are conveyed through
the two texts I have been studying including
Baz Lurhmanns tragic/ romantic film of
Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet and a poem
called “Speak to us of Children” by
Kahlil Gibran from The Prophet. Today Ill be
discussing how the audience/ responder
gains meaning from images and its techniques
used in these two texts.
The scene I will be discussing from the film
Romeo and Juliet is chapter 5, the scene
of preparations just before the big party at the
Capulet Mansion.
The mood created in this scene is rushed
energetic and has elements of comedy. The mood
shapes the meaning by creating anticipation
before the big party.
The music is very fast and the quick cuts of the
camera make the atmosphere seem rushed
Also, by the use of editing using a film technique
to make Juliets mother move faster
