George Mason was born on December 11, 1725, at the Mason family plantation in Fairfax County, Virginia. His father died in 1735 when there was an accident on the Potomac. On April 4, 1750, he got married to ann Eilbeck who was sixteen years old. They lived in a house on Georges property in Dogues Neck, Virginia. He completed the construction of Gunston Hall . Gunston Hall is a Georgian mansion near the Potomac River in Mason Neck, Virginia. It was once was the center of a 5500-acre plantation.George Mason and his wife had twelve children, nine of whom survived to adulthood. George Mason worked in the Virginia Convention in Williamsburg in 1776. Mason was appointed in 1786 to represent Virginia as a delegate to a Federal Convention. He met at Philadelphia to revise the Articles of Confederation.

George mason was an antifederalist and urged that there should a Bill of rights.The British didnt allow american expansion west of the Applachian mountains. When war broke out on the frontier, Mason acted as supply agent for troops. He also helped write the constitution.

George Mason is important in the history of the United States. He wrote the Bill of Rights ensuring people rights. He made a lot of effort to try to make sure the government wouldnt abuse its powers. Today, in America, we have a government that rules justly and without tyranny .He also helped George Washingtons army beat he British and because of him we are not ruled by Britain anymore. George Mason also sat down and worked with many people to draft a constitution so we could have a form of government like today.
