The Great Betrayal
Amir is a wealthy man, Hassan’s boss, his father is successful, he flies the kites and he has an education while Hassan is poor, servant to Amir, his father is servant to Baba, chases or runs the kite, no education and a religious man. The same thing about them is they were fed by the same breasts. But then there’s like a torn on Amir’s heart that caused hating Hassan. Amir hates Hassan nor Hassan love Amir without limits or conditions. Probably Amir felt an envy to Hassan because Hassan hasn’t done anything wrong and he became a jealous type person because he thought Hassan steals his father’s attention. Amir watched Hassan raped and didn’t say anything at all. Amir and Hassan’s friendship is complicated and one sided.
But after all Amir and Hassan is the type of the relationship like best friend. They spent a lot of time together doing many things. “When we were children Hassan and I used to climb poplar trees… And annoy our neighbors” As children Hassan and Amir spent many hours of the day climbing trees, throwing rocks, laughing and flying kites. Hanging out and sharing some stuff together. Somehow their friendship is complicated.
Afghan society places people in roles because of the religion they belong to. “…Pashtuns were Sunni Muslims, while Hazaras were Shi-a” Amir is a Pashtun and Hassan is a Shi-a and means less than him. There’s a lot of differences that they have Amir is non- religious while Hassan is religious.
