The best choice in our opinion wasnt always the best choice in the interest of Alumina Inc. There were ramifications of every decision some in favor of the company and some in favor of the plaintiff, very few in favor of the public. This led us to further evaluate the decisions we were making and to be more mindful of the results that could possibly occur. The team will now explain how regulatory risks may be identified and managed through preventative, detective and corrective methods.
In chapter 5 the text discusses how regulations have an impact on businesses and why they are in place to protect both the public and the private entities. Because Alumina Inc had only one occurrence within the last five years may have seemed exemplary but this of course was held not to be true. That one isolated occurrence is what left them liable to the suit at hand. Aluminas environmental law violation not only showed negligence on their part but also left them liable to potential claims against them.
Kelly Bates, the plaintiff in the simulation had accused that due to Aluminas negligence her daughter was stricken with leukemia and felt that she was entitled to damages. This Tort represented the fact that Ms. Bates wanted Alumina to be acknowledged as being at fault and compensated for the issues related to her daughters health. Although Alumina had no prior history to violations this one would prove to be hefty enough. One could argue that preventative methods should have been in place to protect Alumina from such suits and I would imagine that there were but not all preventative methods can work all of the time. In this particular situation Alumina took corrective methods to ensure this problem was both corrected and done so with more preventative tactics. Alumina, when informed of the potential suit was left with options that could pose both threatening to the company and the public as well. They faced not only potential scrutiny by the newspapers editorial but also by the general public.
When approaching situations such as this you must look at the effect it will have on everyone not just the best interest of the company. Alumina had the option to release a article in the newspaper discussing their record and how they are up to date with current standards. While this may have put the general public at ease they stood to lose a lot of supporters should this report prove to be inaccurate in anyway. A simple oversight would damage their relationship with both the stakeholders and the public. The most ethical decision in a situation such as this would have been to utilize the option of conducting ad independent study, and if proven that Alumina is within the set guidelines they could then publish those records. This allows the public to see the track record that Alumina has had and also shows that they are concerned about meeting and exceeding Environmental Protection Agency standards. The method
Pilot: The Pilot was developed at the University of California, San Francisco in the late 90s by a group of scientists specializing in the understanding of airborne illness caused by a variety of insect infestation and by different species of insects including moths. The goal of the pilot is to help develop better methods to identify and evaluate potential human exposure to environmental hazards that may make them unable to cope with life threatening conditions such as these, such as insecticides, insecticides and even small items or children’s toys.
Key Features: These are just a few of the features which could have been done by putting into the paper the new concept of a pilot to look at a lot more of the problems that the product could face! There is also the chance that any information or recommendations about that might be presented to the group in a way that would not include how the study could have been done. If the team has done that they would likely be able to put a report of their results in the same issue which could also have a positive effect on the public’s understanding of that product. In the meantime some of the many challenges still exist for them with regards to this and other issues of environmental health and safety.
While the initial pilot team of some of the scientists participated, the first attempt were successful even though they went back and forth all of the way to their project schedule. The results of these studies led the group to realize that in order for a product like Alumina to meet its end then an international collaboration of thousands of companies would need have to take on this task. There were four teams assembled (one at USC, two in the USA and one from Australia, for example) and the result was that the project was finally finished and Alumina had to leave a huge number of people of all ages and genders to deal with the problems they faced. The only thing which was left after was to have a very large portion of those in the program to report on it and to put together a detailed plan to give to the industry and the public. Once the initial pilot had been completed the organization was able to move on to the next phase of the study and this is when it became a bit of a mystery. The first report the group compiled was a small booklet for the new company. Since this had been considered too small and for their purposes this should not have been of much value though it was a start. However after having done all that had been done in order to get the plan together we finally had the funds and the idea of how well funded the company was had to continue to go until the end. The cost of the book was then only £50.00 to have it published within the next year or so. However the following year, a few more papers from the pilot team started appearing. The first one was published in the magazine ‘Aerosafety’, in which Alumina scientists are described and discussed in depth. The next paper was published in an interesting book. It took the company between two and four years to publish this story. Another great book was published by the US company Univeristy of Illinois in 2006. Some of the original work on the pilot project of Alumina was published by National Geographic and then a few years later published into the press but not enough to create the interest and excitement of the public as there was no interest in making it public. The result of these studies showed the company was still able to meet their own long-term financial commitments.
During this time the company moved one of the most important facilities at all of their facilities and they had their own facilities in the US that they were not using by now. Most of these facilities have not been maintained
