A crime is a act or omission that violates any law which can be punished. The
punishment can range from payment of fine or going to jail. The level of the crime
can be made by what kind of crime it is. Law can be defined as the set of
regulations determined by a group of people who decide what is right and what is
wrong. When those regulations are broken, it creates a crime. There are two
models that help society determine what acts are criminal. The consensus model
is a diverse group of people, who come together and decide based on their
beliefs. The conflict model, leaves it to those with the higher power. There are
different theories on why crimes are committed. Criminal justice is as the process
that government or state through legistration or organization. If its part of the
system or not, agencies must process the cases in front of them. It provides a
useful guide. Criminal justice system is a major part of society. It brings to
justice those who violate the laws passed to protect society as a whole ensuring
in principle that the punishment fits the crime. The three fundamental
components of the system, and all are important in the administration of justice.
The first one is police, they are responsible for investigating crime and to arrest
suspects, take them to jail so they can await trail. Next is the courts , the
prosecutor makes the decision whether a case will go forth in court. The
prosecutor goes over the evidence the arresting officer and witness provide and
decides if there is enough evidence to be able to bring it to trial. Corrections is
another one. Depending on the record of the offender and the severity of the
crime, the judge may decide to sentence the person to prison or probation.
There are a lot of schools of thought in criminal justice system. Choice theory
helps to explains why people commit crimes and break the law. The choice theory
school of thought maintains that individuals choose all of their criminal actions
and those criminal decisions can be controlled by certain and severe
