INTRODUCTION
American Gangster tells a story about how the emerge of drug traffic and trade was in the streets of Harlem, New York. Denzel Washington plays real life gangster- Frank Lucas back in the 70s that was originally from North Carolina.
Lucas moves to Harlem and is apprenticed under a notorious crime boss- Bumpy. Russell Crowe plays detective Richie Roberts – a New York detective that has a task to bring the drug trafficking and corruption between the police department to heel. In the movie also plays Josh Brolin the sleazy cop, along with a host of celebrity actors and actresses.
What I found interesting of this movie was that Lucas was likable even as a terrible person who did awful things in the streets of Harlem and through our own military and oversees.
The movie is built in a way where you never know exactly whats coming next, and you never know who you should be worried about. Richie Roberts plays a bad father who chooses to put women and his job before his family. Lucas plays a drug dealer with enemies all over the place with good character.

The movie talks about how nobody used to notice Frank Lucas in his earlier years that were he was known as the quiet driver to one of the inner citys leading black crime bosses. But when his boss suddenly dies for unknown reasons, Lucas exploits the opening in the power structure to build his own empire and create his own version of the American Dream.
The movie speaks about howLucas also relied on a tightly controlled crew called “The Country Boys.” He preferred using relatives and men from his hometown in North Carolina because they were less likely to steal from him. Through ingenuity and a strict business ethic, he comes to rule the inner-city drug trade, flooding the streets with a purer product at a better price, much cheaper than others. Lucas outplays all of the leading crime syndicates and becomes not only one of the citys mainline corrupters, but part of its circle of legit civic superstars.
