Into the Wind – Movie ReflectionInto the Wind Movie ReflectionJulia ZrinyiThis Movie on Terry Fox was very different from the other ones I have seen. It not only showed the happy positive aspect of Terrys run but the struggles he went through as well. That was one of the things that stuck out to me the most. I never knew people booed at him and tried running him of the road. Also the fact that the media actually wrote in the paper that Terry didnt run across Quebec, which is just terrible who would want to ruin the whole image like that. Another thing that I learned from this video was that a little boy rode his bicycle beside Terry for a day who also was a cancer amputee. Lastly I learned that he went out of his way because of the media and press, this caused him to slow down because of all of the stops. He did not like all the attention because he wanted his run to be about raising money for cancer not about him.
Terry had faced numerous challenges during his run across Canada. One was Terry and his friend Doug living in a little van seeing each other 24/7 so when they got in an argument there was no avoiding each other. Also before Terry became well known cars on the highway wouldnt even slow down as they sped by him. Terry wrote in his journal how it was very difficult. Also since not very many people knew about him hardly any money was made while running through the Maritime Provinces and Quebec. Another difficultly that Terry had been running with an artificial leg which even the doctor was close to impossible. Therefore Terry had to be mentally strong, he was so mentally strong that he wanted to continue running but he physically couldnt especially when his artificial leg needed repair or when the cancer had spread into his lungs. Terry was just that determined to fulfill his dream of finishing his marathon of hope.
In 1992, when Terry was at his most active, Terry was at the bottom of the heap in regards to how much he wanted to improve, he had many goals and his career at the start was quite good, yet to finish it, he needed to keep running.
Terry ran one more marathon in 2007 which was a lot less than he had wanted to. After many months in the hospital Terry stopped going and began to do other things but he didn’t feel that he could continue running, although it was getting better and more difficult for him. Because his mental status changed, Terry was given to running for a year-and-a-half and he started taking it seriously and started to make sure his physical condition was improving and getting back to his goal, though of course he needed the money to start. It was difficult to believe he was doing it for a living. But Terry did the things needed to get through the year, and he didn’t think many others and even his wife would be able to afford. He just took his dream of competing into the next one. And with his health increasing he decided to make the dream come true, because no one else was going. Since then, not one of his friends has gone without a letter.
One reader commented that it became important to understand and appreciate the strength Terry has gained from being in the running community. Terry was a person who took the time to write to friends. He said that it has been difficult moving along, but Terry will soon be at a loss for words.
Terry has done more to get his wife and the kids to get better. This has led to a lot of things that are causing so much misery for him. I can tell you one of the greatest things for me is when I look at Terry’s book about how he started the Run for Wellness and he knows what it takes to make it through. After what we have seen him through, and the people close to him, it has been overwhelming. He knows that he is still on the mend and can still be helped and has taken his own advice. These things are helping him stay motivated and motivated throughout the years. The only thing that is hard in this life is when I get to believe I am the reason you are living a life that is hard for you.
