When considering food/service management companies, many companies may come to mind, however one of the largest and most successful is the Sysco Corporation. With 154 locations scattered throughout North America concentrated in the Midwest and East Coast, Sysco Corporation is dedicated to helping their customers succeed. As a food service management company, it is Syscos responsibility to assist food service operators in providing consumers with solutions for meals consumed away from home. Sysco Corporation has come a long way since 1946 when a man by the name of James Baugh began his own distribution company called “Zero Foods,” which would eventually assume the Sysco name. Sysco, which stands for Systems and Services Company, closed out 2004 with fiscal sales reaching just over twenty-nine billion dollars.
As the need for meals away from home increases, so do the number of sales made by Sysco. Any establishment, which distributes food including, but not limited to restaurants, nursing homes, hospitals, hotels, motels, schools, colleges, cruise ships, sports parks and summer camps must acquire their food from a food service company and approximately 400,000 customers rely on Syscos professional service. Syscos service is not limited to food, but also includes foodservice supplies and equipment. A dining facility could very well be fully stocked with Sysco products from front-of-the-house service ware to back-of-the-house janitorial supplies and heavy-duty equipment.
Sysco is not only a successful company, it is one of the most recognized and celebrated companies in the world.
