Hip Hop Music
Hip hop music, also called hip hop or rap music, is a music genre formed in the United States. Hip hop was created in the 1970s and consist of a stylized rythemic music that commonly accompanies rapping. We will be looking at the different years starting with the 1970s.
Hip hop was formed during the 1970s when block parties were popular in New York City. Particularly around African American teens in the Bronx. Hip hop’s early days occurred around the time that sampling technology and drum machines became available to the public at an affordable price. DJ (someone who makes beats) techniques such as scratching, beat mixing and/or matching, and beat juggling developed along with breaks, so it can be rapped over. Hip hop music in its early years has been described as a mean of expression and a voice for the under privileged teens of poor areas as the culture reflected the social, economic, and political realities of their lives.
