Tang1SamanthaEnglish11Mrs.Volkenant2016.12.2SCARS“Everything will come to you after zig and zag. This is sometimes life works.”It seems is too hard to speak out even though it’s been ten years since they divorced.I still remember the new year feast; I still remember the bright laughing that we made at the table. Those eight years were the happiest time that I could spend time with them, my parent. Below, is the story I have been told from my Grandma, I have hardly any childhood memory with my Grandma, but after 8 years old, that darkest, and coldest winter, I moved to her house, and I stayed with her for the next five years. My parent met each other in the hotel they were working for in the 1990s. when they were young, like my age now. My mom used to be a receptionist, and my dad was a delivery man. One day when my dad was doing the daily routine in the morning — sending the material to the kitchen that they need, he was holding half dozen of boxes of fresh eggs with two hands so that he can’t see what is in front of him, yes he bumped my mom, yes the eggs broke. That’s how they met each other, he took her uniform home and wash it, and like the most stupid romantic story, they fell in love, without hesitation.
They married in 1996, after two years, I was born. According to what my Grandma said to me, they used to be the best parent. When I was 8 years old, they divorced because the financial problems that my dad was facing, my mom didn’t want to take the responsibility to pay the balance of his debt. So they divorced, my mom took me to my Grandma’s house and she left. I still remember when I pleaded her not to leave, she said she’s going to make money for me, for giving me a better life. The year after that, one of my best friends told the whole class my parent were divorced accidently. That was a harmful scar in my heart. Because divorces are very discreditable in my culture. I will never forget how my friends look at me, they look at me as an “orphan”, like I never ever have parent…Things changed when I graduated from elementary school, I thought once I got in a new school, met new people, start new friendships I could come over the scar. But my grandma got Alzheimer when I was in Grade 7. She could not take took care of herself, let alone take care of a parentless teenager. My mom employed a nurse to take care of my grandma. Then she made a decision which the best parent shouldn’t ever make. “Sweetheart, mommy earned enough money now, and I can afford to pay the money for you study abroad.”
