Texas Shine Car Wash of Schertz Texas was featured on the KSAT News which was aired on September 22, 2010. An employee whose identity was not disclosed was interviewed by April Molina of KSAT News. The Texas Shine employee complained that the current work hours and compensation of the company is unfair and unethical to its employees.
Texas Shine Car Wash is a private company categorized under the Car Washing and Polishing Equipment-Manufacturer, and located in Schertz, TX. It was established in 1999 and incorporated in Texas. The unidentified employee stated that she was given a work schedule to complete an eight hour work shift on a particular day, upon her arrival to the car wash she was told that business for the day was very slow and she was not allowed to check in for her assigned work schedule. She along with other employees was given the option to wait around for business to increase, leave the premises or seek employment elsewhere. The employee then asked the management team if she could be allowed to perform some type of work duty in order to earn her hourly wage, she was denied the opportunity to “clock in”.
The management team of Texas Shine says it has the right to refuse an employee to “clock in” when reporting to work, and that the employees are allowed to work at the other Texas Shine locations as long as there is continuous steady flow of business.
According to Ann Hatchitt who is the spokeswoman for the Texas Workforce Commission said that the Texas payday law does not address the issue, however that there is a relevant
