Don’t Judge Blacks Differently
Purpose: Discrimination and racism is still something our country is struggling to deal with, especially among people of color. Black people shouldn’t be looked down upon and treated as if they’re different. What I heard :
There was a common belief that a black man in office would bring more racial peace. I heard that other races would treat a person differently because the color of their skin. Racism does not just come from discrimination, it’s when you treat someone differently also. This led people to feel it’s more racist as it sounds demeaning and condescending. Correspondingly, the narrator adds on about the Michael Brown incident, one of the recent police officer killings that involved an unarmed black victim. One may question if the facts or the color of another’s skin is more important, or in this case, of the Michael Brown shooting. Because Brown was of color, who was murdered by a white police man, the facts doesn’t seem to be of any significance. In other words, If the race and roles were to be switched around, then everything, including the facts would matter. Any person, of any race or color, who justify blacks only for any wrong doings that they’ve done, surely is defined with irrational hatred.
What I learned:
After listening to the video, I never took in consideration how much race and color plays into a big role whether or not the facts actually matter. No matter any situation between two ethnic groups, the facts should always matter regardless of skin color. The speaker made some good points that concerned equal treatment. Many are using skin colors as a way of justifying and excusing their actions. Before, I never considered
