LAB REPORT FORMATAIM(0.5) – write down the aim of the experiment you performedCHEMICALS REQUIRED(0.5)- List all the chemicals that you used in the experimentGLASSWARE USED(0.5)- list all the glassware that was used in the experimentTHEORY(1.5)- Provide an in-depth theoretical background of  the experiment. All definitions, chemical structures, Equations and mechanisms should be included in this sectionPROCEDURE(1)- Write down the procedure in points(please do not write it as a paragraph) . The procedure should be written in past tense.DATA(1)- This portion should include your data sheet with all the observations and calculations neatly mentioned. If the data sheet used during the lab period is not presentable you can use another data sheet. However, you should attach the data sheet that you used in the lab period as well since that one will have TA’s initials. CONCLUSION AND INFERENCE(1)- This section should include conclusions you drew from the experiment with a proper logical explanation for the results you obtainedPOST –LAB QUESTIONS(1)- If you are assigned any post lab questions by the TA you need to include that in your lab report. Please note if there are no post lab questions assigned , in that case your data will be worth 2 points instead of 1.

Identifying the density of the unknown liquid AChemicals Required:Sodium benzoate (C6H5COONa) 3M Hydrochloric Acid (HCL) Unknown liquid  AGlassware Used:5 mL conical reaction vialGlass rodHirsch funnelBeaker1-ml measuring pipetFilter flaskGraduated cylinderTheory:Procedure:        Part AApproximately 0.4 grams of Sodium Benzoate is weighed on the electronic balance by using a flat-bladed microspatula and weighing paper. The weighed Sodium Benzoate was transferred into a 5ml conical reaction vial3-ml of water was measured using the smallest graduated cylinder and poured into the 5-ml conical reaction vial containing the Sodium Benzoate. The mixture was then stirred using a glassrod until all the sodium benzoate is totally dissolved.By using the 1-ml measuring pipet, 1-ml of 3M,Hydrochloric Acid(HCl) was measured and poured in to the vial drop by drop while stirring.Once 0.8 ml of HCl is poured into the vial, the mixture is frequently tested with pH paper to check the acidity of the mixture. The rest of the HCl was poured into the vial drop by drop until the pH paper turns red.Once the solution achieved the desired pH levels, the vial was cooled for 5 minutes in a beaker contained crush ice. After 5 minutes, the newly formed substance was filtered by using the Hirsch funnel connected to filter flask and a rubber tube. (Filter paper was inserted into the Hirsch funnel)Next, the rubber tube was then connected to the water pipe in order for the filtration process can be done. The filtration process starts when the tap water is turned on.After the filtration process finished, the filtered substance was then furthered dried in the hood for 5 minutes. After the desired substance had been dried, it was then transferred into a watch glass and then moved to the weighing paper for weighing purposes.Lastly, the mass of the end product was observed and recorded.Part BAn empty 5-ml conical reaction vial was weighed using the electronic balance with the cap of the conical reaction vial is on. The mass of the conical vial was recordedBy using a plastic graduated pipet, 0.25ml of the unknown solution A was transferred into the conical vial. The conical vial was weighed in order to obtain a new calculated mass. The new mass was recorded. Then again, by using the same plastic graduated pipet, 0.5ml of the unknown solution A was transferred into the same conical vial. The vial was capped back on and then weighed back on the electronic balance. The new calculated mass was recorded.Steps 4-5 is repeated until the total volume of the unknown solution
