Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the physical geography, history and culture of Hawaii.
Central Idea: We will see that Hawaii is a special place, by looking at its physical geography, history, and culture.
Introduction
What comes to mind when you think of palm trees, beautiful beaches, luaus and hula dances?
Hawaii
The “Aloha” state.
Do you know what aloha means?
Aloha is the Hawaiian word meaning love.
It is also used to say hello or goodbye to visitors.
During my visit to Hawaii, I was able to learn a great deal about its geography, history and culture.
Today I will like to share with you some of the geographical, historical and cultural values of Hawaii.
(Transition: Lets start with the physical geography.)
Body
Hawaii is the only state made up of islands and islets formed from volcanoes.
It is the southernmost state in the United States
Located south of the Tropic of Cancer.
The only state located in the tropics, and the without territory on the mainland of any continent.
Hawaii has eight major islands that are inhabited.
Hawaii (known as The Big Island), Oahu (capital city is Honolulu), Maui, Molokai, Kauai, Lanai, Ni;ihau, and Kahoolawe are the eight islands that are inhabited.

The remaining 132 islets are uninhabited.
Has more than 70 state parks and recreation areas.
Hawaii has mild temperatures all year, and rainfall due to its rainforest.
Summer temperatures average about 82 degrees Fahrenheit.
Winter temperatures average 77 degrees Fahrenheit.
The average annual precipitation in Hawaii are 110 inches.
An abundance of tropical fruit and vegetales grow in Hawaii because of its rich soil.
Pineapple and sugarcane are the most popular of produce grown there.
Other tropical fruit grown in Hawaii are: bananas, coconut, guava, and papaya.
Macadamia nuts and coffee beans as well.
(Transition: Now we will look at the history and population of Hawaii.)
Hawaii was first inhabited about two thousand years ago.
Polynesians from Marquesas Island was the first to live there.
They were short.
About 800 years later, another group of Polynesians from Tahiti also came to reside in Hawaii.
They were tall.
Honolulu has the only royal palaces in the United States.
King Kalakaua built the Iolani Palace
Queen Liliuokalanis throne.
Queen Emma Summer Palace located outside of Honolulu.
According to the 2000 census, 1,211,537 people live in Hawaii.
Asians and Pacific Islanders make up 61.9 percent of the population in Hawaii.
