Human Immunodeficiency Virus OR (HIV) scientists say that one out ten people have this disease. And chances are they dont even know they have it. The reason for this is because the virus mutates to keep one step ahead of your immune system, also this disease goes inactive or remission for many years where it resurfaces with full force. AIDS ravages the immune system, undermining the bodys ability to defend itself from infection and disease. It is caused by the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome or (AIDS); HIV leaves an infected person vulnerable to opportunistic infections.
In fact, teenagers are most typically affected by AIDS/HIV and also people who have sexual contact with someone who has HIV. In a recent study in the end of 2003, an estimated 40 million people worldwide – 37 million adults and 2.5 million children younger than 15 years – were living with HIV/AIDS. The HIV virus poses one of the biggest viral threats to human society today. It is contracted through bodily fluids such as blood, semen, breast milk, and vaginal secretions. The virus is even present in saliva and tears although it is unknown if it can be transferred.
HIV/AIDS kills 100% of its victims and puts them through agony before they die. There immune system basically cant defend it self and virtually becomes its worst enemy. It has been a threat for nearly 20 years, and it is not going to stop now. In fact the reported number of cases grows each year. There is no known cure for this virus there are various treatments some experimental, but they are very expensive and some highly painful, and they only slow the reproduction of the virus but are unable to cure it.
In conclusion I feel that AIDS and HIV is a very serious topic that most people dont take seriously enough. All it takes is one time and bam you got it and now your going to die, all that it would take is fifteen seconds to put on a condom but no you didnt think it would happen to you. But the best prevention for not getting AIDS/HIV is abstinence. The AIDS virus is here to stay and its not leaving any time soon so think safe, and think of the consequences of your action.
