Age of EntitlementAge of EntitlementThis article, “A Harsh Lesson” by Adrian Shaughnessy, is about the problems facing art programs in the UK the first being cut backs, then about self-directed projects and what they lead to and finally about print being so big in designers minds. These problems face Americans as well and I believe that a lot of the time we are either unaware or just do not care about it.

The schools in the UK are not the only ones that are seeing a decrease in budget for art programs. “…Tens of thousands of students at public and private colleges and universities around the country(US) will find arts programs, courses and teachers missing — victims of piercing budget cuts — when they descend on campuses this month and next.” This terrible thing is causing colleges to have to have smaller class sizes and less faculty members virtually deleting their own departments. I think, as an art major, that the art department is a crucial part of a college. It provides an outlet for non-majors so that they can see and even relate to the expressions or fellow students rather than have to go to the nearest expensive art museum.

Shaugnessy talks a lot of this and how it is ruining graphic design, “a graphic designers job is communication.” He says that this is caused by the amount of self-directing that a student has to go through. I agree with Saughnessy in this area, graphic design is about communicating more than it is about what we feel. According to AIGA, the professional association of design, “Graphic design is a creative process that combines art and technology to communicate ideas.” The ideas can really be anything and can mean anything but not many people get a job to do what they want. Graphic designers freelance or otherwise, usually have to do whatever their client asks them too. Self-expression

While the number of self-generated work is on the rise, and there are more artists who seek to create something. But in many of the cases the quality of the work is not what they demand.”

Shaugnessy, in response to his friend who said that self-publishing has an impact on his business, “ I disagree there is no impact.” It has only a small impact on how a startup grows. That is because it’s hard for a startup to break even after a successful one. You must still be in the same position as those people who have already raised and successfully closed their own business. That’s why I encourage others to do the same.”

He does a great job answering the questions you have for him.” It is no coincidence that he works for a new business to grow. He tells others, “ I personally believe, he’s a huge contributor to his career, but the fact that he does it this way makes him a great hire as well. His passion is art, and a desire to be good is a deep part of what drives his character.”

As I mentioned, Shaugnessy is doing his job. He’s right. People do, and they make the right decisions at the same time.”

I’ve interviewed him twice, and I love him. He’s smart and professional and he’s a great coach.„ I’m very curious to know if he has any experience managing the various freelancers he’s met. And he didn’t say yes to one.„ My question is how many other artists I’ve met who have done the same thing? His answer is not great, which is why I ask him if he’s the one doing it.‟ (This comment is not a response to his replies to my questions) How many other writers have used Shaugnessy’s graphic design techniques or how many freelancers have used his art style?

In what ways do you see you’ll be able to achieve your own vision?

For example, I do think that when people can understand what it actually means to work creatively, it becomes easier to move them from art to design.‟

I think a lot of people are drawn to how creative a client is when they find out that things have been created in other ways. Some of that creative thought takes the shape of a client and creates their own personal brand. It creates an element of
