Muscle Fatigue Lab
Rationale: The effects of muscle fatigue was examined by completing an action in a certain time frame to see how exercise and actions can affect the body. Based on the knowledge that when more ATP is used, it causes lactic acid to build up on the muscles and the bodys muscles to become tired and unable to complete the same actions at the same speed as it had before the muscle fatigue was brought about.
Methods: The exerciser held a book by the binding in their non-dominant hand while their assigned recorder set a timer. The exerciser curled the book at their own steady pace until their arm got tired otherwise known as muscle fatigue being reached. Every 10 seconds, the timer wrote down and recorded the number of curls the exerciser completed. This is done without rest in between the 10 second intervals and continued until fatigue is reached. This is repeated 4 times for a total of 4 trials with a minute of rest between each trial, each time the data was recorded on the table.
There were no safety concerns during this lab (with the exception of a stray backpack that was tripped over) and no personal protective equipment was used.
Results: The data completed showed expected results, overtime, the amount of curls being completed decreased. As shown in Table 1, the more 10 second intervals that passed, the less number of curls that were fully completed. As well as having the more trials completed, the less number of curls were completed
