Strategic Plan for Akuafo Hall’s Marketing and CommunicationThe purpose of this strategic communication plan is to support the objectives and goals for an organized communication system for Akuafo Hall. It will serve as the Hall’s formal communication plan and represent a framework for managing and coordinating all internal and external communication regarding the Hall from the Alumni perspective. This document will seek to achieve a communication instrument conducive to accomplishing clear branding and consistent messages; articulating the Hall’s mission, vision, and goals; and adopting a culture of uplifting the values of Akuafo hall and projection of those values through the Alumni network to raise funds for continuous maintenance of the core values and activities of the Hall.Background of HallAkuafo Hall, also referred to as the Hall of Excellence, is the second Hall of residence to be established in the University of Ghana, then the University College of the Gold Coast. The Membership of Akuafo Hall has remained the same since its inception; it consists of the Hall Master, Fellows, Honorary and Associate Fellows and Junior Members. The Hall Master is elected by Fellows, whiles Fellows are assigned to the Hall by the Vice Chancellor. Honorary and Associate Fellows are elected by Fellows while Junior Members are assigned to the Hall as members in Statu pupilari. The Administration of Akuafo Hall is supervised by a Governing Council consisting of all the Fellows assigned to it by the Vice-Chancellor. The Hall Council consists of the Hall Master, the vice Hall Master, the Senior tutor, the Deputy Senior tutor, the President of the Senior Common Room, the Chapel Warden, the Hall Librarian, the Bursar(as Secretary), one representative of Junior workers, and two Junior Members representing the Junior Common Room(JCR) which is the student body of the Hall.
The hall in the quest of being the very best in the University, has to relook at the its strategic planning and branding objectives. The following strategies and events can be adopted by the Hall in to improve its branding and communication efforts.Establishment of Communication TeamThe communication team members will be selected or elected by the fellows of the Hall Alumni. These members will include those who have responsibility for different aspects of internal and external communication and marketing efforts. They will be charged with acting as a coordinating body to ensure that hall’s communication activities support strategic goals and objectives, as well as assisting in the development and implementation of the hall’s overall communication plan.Establish Online PresenceEfforts need to be made to develop a website with enhanced pages and updated content. Currently no such website exists to consciously market the values of the hall and its alumni to the world. An effort should be underway to develop a logical standard for use in establishing and maintaining the website and accompanying social media presence which will attract new entrants into the hall and also be an avenue to reconnecting with other Alumni in the diaspora.Alumni Involvement in Hall ActivitiesThe Alumni network can strategically get involved with activities of junior members of the hall. This can be done through organizing series of activities during certain occasions in the Hall’s calendar. The Alumni network can take advantage of occasions such as Hall weeks and Farmer’s day celebrations to engage the junior members of the Hall. Some activities that can be considered are:Organization Career Coaching EventsThe Alumni network of the Hall can organize career coaching series such as conducting quarterly entrepreneurial coaching seminars to educate Hall junior fellows of how to get to the very top after successfully going through life in the hall, with specific example from past occupants of the hall. These sessions will provide an opportunity for Akuafo Hall to increase its brand recognition as well as partnership alliances with sponsors that will support these events.
