The Agricultural Revolution: Pros and Cons
The Agricultural Revolution Nashad MahamoudAround 10,000 years ago the Agricultural Revolution took place and created a more efficient way of supplying food. Nobody knows how it truly took place but the most logical theory was that in the Fertile Crescent, women accidently dropped seeds and once it had rained, crops started to grow and was the beginning of a new era but some may see this to be a bad thing but I believe that it has had more positive impacts than negative impacts. As I said, there were positive impacts. For example, the Agricultural Revolution led to surplus. This is a good thing because before, people would always struggle to find food but growing crops sometimes provided more than needed. So, not everybody was required to farm. This gave people chances to do something else since they have found an efficient way of surviving. That led to specialized jobs. Specialized jobs were a big part of society because it led to trading. People would create art, clothing, pottery, advanced technology (tools), and trade it for something one didn’t have with other cities. Not all cities had equivalent supplies so in order to have what one needed, people traded. Trading needed to be organized in some way so I believe record keeping and complex institutions took place. (The reason I said “I believe” is because nobody knows how the order truly goes.) If you read carefully, you will realize that surplus led to civilization.Civilization has done many various amount of wonders for our society. For example, it has kept people together and helped us advance over time. But back then; it created stable villages, instead of retaining a group of hunters/gatherers and moving from one place to another in order to survive. It also helped governments evolve. Without a government, the world would be chaotic and we wouldn’t be where we are today. But unfortunately, not everything about the Agricultural Revolution had a positive impact.
