The initiation of railroads and the growth of American Industries played a very important role in the growth of the country. Railroads made it businesses able to spread their product throughout the nation and Industries raised the Manufacturing rate and profit. These two advancements benefited our citizens greatly, but had its flaws and downsides.
From the period of 1850 through 1871 The Federal governments gave huge land grants to encourage the building of the railroads. The railroads represented trade and independence. The building of these massive tracks provided much work especially for unemployed immigrants. They made expansion available for a wider range of people. Before this innovation to travel overland by stagecoach cost one thousand dollars and took five to six months. The railroads made it possible to travel for only 5 days with a fee of one hundred and fifty dollars for a first-class sleeper. The iron, coal, steel, lumber and glass industries grew rapidly just because of the their constant need to keep up with the railroad needs.
The growth of Industry also helped benefit and industrialize the Country immensely. Industry Entrepreneurs such as Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, and J.P Morgan played the biggest roles during this time. Like railroads large industries created plentiful jobs. In this so-called gilded age from 1869 to 1910 United States Manufacturing rose from three to thirteen billion dollars. This gave way to a new breed of millionaires which fortune and power was far set apart from the rest of the country, while creating a new middle class. This emergence of Modern Corporation was accompanied by many positive developments. Through mechanization, standardization, and economics of sale productivity soared.
The Industrial Revolution (1789 – 1794)
The Industrial Revolution made a significant impact on America. There have been innumerable accounts of how this revolution transformed the fabric of a nation. For example Thomas Hardy, author of “The Wealth of Nations,” wrote in his “History of the United States.” There, “In America we have never had as much freedom as we did before the Industrial Revolution.” Hardy’s assertion has been the basis of everything from the American Revolution to the present. The American Revolution changed the way that citizens lived, spoke, and thought. It changed their values and culture, and changed America’s way of life, including its way of life. The United States became a nation that has a single goal:
The Government in all its powers is the Crown of our Government, as it is all other States. We can do little other but protect our Government as it is now.
To do more, especially to protect our Government, and to bring this Government into a new harmony with the rest of our country, we are prepared to do many good things.
During a period of prosperity we can help build new factories and build up our military. These have great potential.
When the Government runs its own business, we can strengthen the system. We can encourage innovation in our industries. We can create new jobs and help create new talents.
In addition, We are prepared to expand the market by attracting and retaining skilled labor from abroad. We can do good by helping businesses to grow with their production on favorable terms and by saving money by expanding production through expansion agreements of other businesses like trade unions, and our leaders at large like Henry Ford.
The United States has been the most successful foreign national economy since the invention of steam. Americans and Europeans have been the world’s wealthiest for many decades. We do good for our people and our country by investing in our people.
America’s prosperity and prosperity is in need of new skills. And today, America’s job growth is not fast or low. It will not fast but very soon. The skills and skills needed for this job are many and growing, but not yet the same as those to do it today.
The great part of prosperity is in the provision of new, better, safer and better products and services. And in this prosperity we know that by having the best working families and the most capable people we will create an opportunity for America to get back on our feet.
