Macbeths success in achieving his ambition of becoming a king was a result of his own character, as well as other characters in the play. Ladys Macbeth determination, Macbeths outstanding reputation and manipulation helped him to become king.

Determination played a big role in Macbeths success of becoming a king. Lady Macbeth is much more ambitious and determinate than Macbeth himself. This behavior is displayed when at first, she started by calling him names and telling him how much of a coward she thinks he is since he wanted to be king but he was not ready to take any actions to make his dream come true. She was very determined as seen in her actions as she knew that without her strength of mind Macbeth would keep backing away from the original plan of killing Duncan. Another example of her determination is seen when Macbeth comes to meet her after killing Duncan with the daggers in his hands. She told him to go back to the crime scene and return it to prevent getting caught. As Macbeth refused to go back, Lady Macbeth was not ready to give up. She took matters into her own hands and went back to Duncans room to put the daggers back into place, despite the fear of picturing her “father” when seeing dead Duncan. Her determination influenced Macbeth in a bad way. Willpower was an important factor in Macbeths success of becoming king. Without it, Macbeth would most likely moved back from the idea of killing the king due to his loyalty to him.

Macbeths excellent reputation also really helped him in being chose over Banquo or anyone else to become the next king of Scotland. Macbeths reputation was built over many years; he was a general and so was Banquo. What was unique about Macbeth was that he did not fear his enemies. For instance, Macbeth was the one who killed the king of Norway when Norway decided to attack Scotland. Moreover, as Duncan invited himself to Macbeths castle it can be remarked that Duncan felt that Macbeth was part of his family and was very loyal to the king by showing him a lot of respect. Therefore, Macbeth, felt that this was a great opportunity to kill his king and to become a king himself. Macbeths great reputation was created largely by the number of awards he got from the king due to his great achievements when it came to solving problems and fighting enemies in battles. The noblemen of Scotland felt that Macbeth was the right person to replace Duncan, and such action was needed to be done as soon as possible before the enemies took advantage of the chaos going on in the country. Macbeths good reputation among many people is obviously one of the things which helped Macbeth to be chosen as King of Scotland.
