“Volunteering is a good way to become a significant part of teen culture,” according to Inara Verzemnieks in a recent article in the Oregonian. Most teens believe that people look at them as irresponsible careless kids. For example Clara a freshmen at Grant High School stated that “A lot of people think were this big community of bad kids.” Music and celebrities are a big trend on teen volunteering as well. The more teens volunteer the more it benefits them.
According to the Importance of benefits gained from teen Volunteering independent Sector 2000, between the years of 1992 and 1996 the percentage of teen volunteering has increased. Teens have found out those volunteering benefits them in many ways. For example teens have learned to respect others, learned to get along and relate to others, gain satisfaction from helping others and learned to understand people who are different from them. In the independent Sector it shows about 21% of teenagers have learned to respect others between the years of 1992 and 1996. It also showed that about 18% of teenagers developed new career goals as well.
In fact, Volunteering doesnt only benefit the teenagers but it also benefits the recipients. It benefits them because they get the job done and also get the respect they want. For instance if teenagers help out at a nursing home most likely they will be entertaining the elderly. The elderly would benefit because there having a merry time but on the other hand the teenagers are also getting the advantage by getting the satisfaction from helping others.
