Technology in the Workplace
Technology in the Workplace
The purpose of this paper is to explain how wireless technologies, particularly smart phones, have altered business methods for both businesses as well as the consumers. In today’s business environment employees and managers stay ahead of their current and potential customers all while offering more balance in home life with enabling contact with family and others during the day with.
Most smart phones now days can do the same, if not more, that wired computers and phones were doing in the past. If an employee leaves is desk or office it would be terrible if he missed an important call or email, and lose that business to another competitor. However, with smart phones they can take their email anywhere they go and since it is a phone they can catch the phone calls. Not only do these phones provide us with email on the go, but also calendars, contacts, instant/ text messaging, file storage, news and more. the smart phones also have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities.
According to Rainer & Cegielski (2011), businesses are using wireless technology such as smart phones for mobile banking, electronic payment systems, micropayments, mobile (wireless) wallet and wireless bill payments. Marketing and sales can be targeted using location-based applications (l-commerce) and intra-business applications use non-voice systems to support employee functions and business dispatch and workflow.
Smart phones also give personal options, take and save pictures and videos of friends and family, and even entire length movies; however, the most common multimedia function of the smart phone is the ability to play music and enjoy whenever.
