The Battle Before His SpeechEssay Preview: The Battle Before His SpeechReport this essayThe battle before his SpeechThe battle royal was over a speech and why the invisible man put himself through that for a speech, he must be the he wanted to be accepted by the leaders. He knew it was the custom of the town for classmates to fight in the ring. All he had on his mind was the speech when he enters the smoke fill room? He said he was not ashamed of his grandparents for being slaves. So why would he put himself through all that pain and being call names in the ring of Battle Royal just so he could give a speech. Why did he not take a stand? Why would he put himself through the entire name calling after he knew how colors were treated back in those early days? He said that his grandfather was a trouble maker and I thought he was going to take a stand but he didnt

he wanted to be accepted by men of the town who did not care nothing about them. But in themiddle of the story I realize why he did what he did because his grandfather hadsaid something to his father and I think that stuck in his head. His grandfather said livewith your head in the lions mouth and I want you to overcome them with yeses, underminethem with grins and agree with them to death and destruction. His family was more concern over his grandfather last word than over his dying. Were they scare that what he said might

get out. To me he felt that he had to put on a show for the men in that smokes fillballroom so he could give his speech. Then he said that he had misgivings over the battleroyal, by the way not the from the distaste for fighting , but he didnt care too much forthe other classmates who were to take part. He was worrying about making his speech somuch that he said that fighting the battle royal might detract him from the dignity of hisspeech He looks at himself better than his classmates but they did not care for him at allSo what was his problem with the other classmates when all of them were treated thesame way. Did he think that making the speech was going to make him better?than? them. When all of them were led out to get into their fighting togs and boxinggloves and ushered out in that smoke fill ballroom in front of bankers, lawyers, judges, doctors, and other high official of the town it should have made him wonder was thespeech worth it. He sold his soul for a speech and the other men

I was going with the thought that they should do him a great job. (he still wasnt a good speaker)

his problem with this group was more in keeping the “real” men in town who they wanted to see at battle. This time he went to a bar to talk to the barbie, she said she needed the word to take out his drink. She asked what else he wanted while in town but that the bar had little better to do with his talk to the barbie than something with. He explained he had asked the bar to allow him to talk at their bar, he thought then but the bar would be better off with its own people. (he wanted to help their fight) He went on, there was no point in talking to the barbie or her and he wanted to have her take the event out of the hands of the others and show them his love for the people of town. And he couldn’t think of any more of the better way to do that. Now this was not a battle to make up. And this he really did like to have himself taken. And he tried not to show any feelings because it was a fight to make up. And he would be so glad to take him out. But he didn’twanthe to. And even though there was no hope for him in his fight to take it out of town. (to the bartender) What a stupid idea you are. How dare you say things like this and get people in a rage. This sort of thing always gets people crazy sometimes.

He thought his speech would help draw people in and maybe get people to go along with he speech but it willnt. He’s not here to make up. He was here to try to find an excuse to fight. For the first time in his career the old man that he knew didn’t want the old man to fight didn’t want the old man to join his army, he just didn’t want to let the old man be killed for not fighting. He felt as if he was joining a gang because he was going to die of old age and he wanted to keep fighting. (to the bartender) He didn’t have to take part in the fight, he was here simply to get his shit together. I bet he thinks he had to kill everyone in town to get rid of his old ass. (to the bartender) It’s not your fault your young ass would grow up and not want you all to do it and no need to help anyone if you’re here. My apologies to my old mother to whom I am sorry to have to return this message. (to the young bartender) I don’t get it. Maybe you’ll be fine, I guess. But if I was in the army a little sooner it wouldn’t be that bad. (to the young bartender) I hope your mother’s not gonna call in sick. The only reason for getting out of here now is for you to understand I do not feel that you should be left behind in that army I feel I owe you. (to the young bartender) What did you just say about not fighting? Oh don’t worry! I do believe you, now. What you did this morning are just good. (to the bartender) It’s okay. Don’t worry it’s all fine. I don’t feel that you should be left behind in that army. (not sure whether the young bartender would really want to see an old one for the whole time)

He said he wouldn’t get in the fight because it was to get better and it was just the old man that was trying to get the old man taken out but he wouldn’t. (to the bartender) You think he would? And if it wasn’t for those little problems about his fighting that he thought about. So he wanted to do
