Empowerment Through the Arts
Rosanna Castillo“Behind the Curtain” Empowerment Through the Arts The gallery we attended had a warm and welcoming feeling. The ambiance was mellow. The first floor had intriguing art some of which I couldn’t understand. The names of some of the art work didn’t match the art which made the interpretation a bit challenging. The art was vague in the sense that what was painted or created did not express its meaning. The lower level floor was my favorite, because it had art that was amazingly beautiful. There was a painting that looked like a photograph when in fact it was a painting; that was my favorite art work of all. There was also a few dogs made out newspaper; this was so surprising to see how the artist shaped and formed a dog out newspaper. On the lower level on a wall there was an art work that was framed and half of the woman was natural meaning no make-up or Photoshop and the other half was not- I didn’t like this art work very much. My understanding of this piece of work was that the artist was trying to show the difference between what models look like naturally and what they look like in magazines. After the art gallery we also looked around the neighborhood and came across some street art that was very well painted. The paintings were painted on the street walls and one painting was on the door of a Bar hotel. They were all lovely. Overall, it was an amazing experience and gave me a chance to admire art from a different perspective
