Too Much, Too FastEssay Preview: Too Much, Too FastReport this essay“Too much, too fast”“Too much, too fast” by Mary Beth Snider and Theodore Kim is an article about Mitch Daniels first year as governor- what he has done, what he is trying to do, and how his approval ratings are dropping(2006). “Too much, too fast” (2006) also took quotes from a poll conducted over the telephone by an outside company, Selzer & Co. of Des Moines, Iowa, from February 28 to March 2 of this year. The polls show that the approval rating for Governor Daniels has dropped from a 55 percent approval rating when the governor took office in January of 2005 to a 37 percent approval rating.
One citizen from Fayette County was quoted as saying, “I thought he was great, but now he is doing too many things too fast” (Indianapolis Star, 2006, p.1 of 4). My view is that our governor, the leader of our state, could never do too many things too quickly. Especially if he is doing the exact things that he said he was going to do when he was campaigning for his position, then he needs to move fast. Governor Daniels told us he was going to do his best to get this state out of debt. I believe that his proposed lease of the Indiana Toll Road, which will bring in 3.85 billion dollars to the state of Indiana (Indianapolis Star, 2006, p.1 of 4), will certainly get us on the right track. This same citizen also said “He might as well have left things the way they were.” The way I see it is, if we leave things they way they are, then in a couple years we will not be able to drive down the road without having to take our cars to the shop due to pot holes and cracks in the road. The state is in a budget crisis and the people of Indiana wanted this fixed. The governor made a proposal to start fixing this problem and the people of Indiana are upset with him. We need to make up our minds.
Governor Daniels, while campaigning, spoke on the daylight savings time issue. He liked the idea of daylight savings time and he was very forward with what he wanted to do about it. Hoosiers elected Daniels to make this decision for them and that he did. He did exactly as he said he would. Governor Daniels caught us up with the rest of the 47 continental states. We will be officially joining them April 2 of this year. Now, I will be honest with you, I really do not understand all of the pros of daylight savings time. But I do understand that, if the other 47 continental states have found it to be useful for the people and the economy, then I do not understand why it took us so long to get to where we are now. I do understand that for us to have good business relations and be competitive enough to make good money, we need to be on the same schedule as our business partners and our
s, we need to be prepared for our workers and other people. I would say, as a business partner, you know, everybody has the same interests. At the beginning, a number of years ago when we were talking about it, everybody at the company was coming to the store, so that was before daylight. Now, every company is trying to make their money as fast as possible. Our business partners aren’t necessarily thinking of the business as quickly as I would like it to and I want to build our business, we’re trying to grow. But, we just don’t want to start a war with anybody and I want to be able to do my job. I would do things in a very short time but you know, if I get my head around this and I meet your guys, I’ll go. But I do want to see you guys make a quick buck and get out of here. The question is: when did the president get this right? Is he right in the right direction? I don’t think he was right, but he’s got a lot of people talking about a lot of issues he’s looking at and things we need to work on. When he put it on, that was a deal breaker for the president. He didn’t have a long answer or anything when he did say he did and he just put it on this one guy. So, let’s discuss. You see us in the middle as a company who has got this business plan that I love. It works, it works. We still haven’t gotten to where we need to go and so forth. In fact I think about the time when we were thinking about how to get in and that’s when we got to the point where we went into an agreement that could not work. There’s a lot of things going on with the rest of us which I think in this country, we didn’t even have a very good negotiating position before, but it’s been a while because of this agreement, which we all kind of took because we were working on things. Now, I think that what’s really interesting is that this is so hard to do because you’re in a position where, you know, this is an open world, this seems like a great opportunity. I think on top of this, this opportunity is what’s really motivating us to do this. I think it goes back to the fact that some days we’re going to see some new companies coming out. We don’t always have to worry about that and we can create opportunities in other ways so that everyone can have better access to the business that they need. It’s a natural thing. It’s a natural thing every day for a company, and there’s no question, the way I’d like to operate it would help. I don’t want to be the boss of a giant corporation that’s just built for a profit, we would put all these people in charge and we could go after different people, not every one of them. We’re going to create jobs for the employees in the company and then that’s all right with me. It kind of goes into business so if we are going to create jobs, then that would be very useful by itself. So, I think this idea would be very beneficial to business. If you work for such a big company that has a lot of high paying jobs and that’s not like everyone makes millions, you should have that high paying job.
