Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate Social ResponsibilityQuestion 1Each firm has a social responsibility to improve the environment of the community surrounding it. The community should be the first beneficiaries of the company’s profits regarding development of infrastructure, labor, investment and projects (Visser 147). In the recent past, the reason behind corporate social responsibility has been neglected by most firms and has made the communities dumping sight and destroying the environment. Organizations are in the business of benefiting themselves, hiding behind the mask of corporate responsibility and filing in the age of responsibility.Anderson, a radical businessman, stated that “sustainability naturally requires an extensive view of its impact on our future generations and it depends on our decisions today”. In my understanding, this is to mean that whatever decision we make as a society will end up affecting the lives of the people either directly or indirectly. Corporate negligence of their duties of social responsibility will, in turn, have an impact on the development of the next generation. The organizations need to sustain the age of liability as it is more of ambition and not only admission. If the corporation can bear its responsibility of development, through ethical, environment and social requirements, there will be sustainability for our future generations.I agree with Anderson’s view of corporate position on sustainability. For a firm to sustain the interest of the workers, shareholders, suppliers and the community as a whole, the firm has to make long term decisions which should impact on the future of the corporate. Some of these activities include: use of alternative source of energy, use of renewable energy and recycling. A corporate should implement sustainable procedures and policies which will be utilized by the firm to make decisions in the future. The corporates have to retain clients and customers by producing quality products which will not terminate the existence of the corporation.Question 4The principal of circularity in sustainability and responsibilities is the ability of the firm to use cradle-to-cradle approach, excellent practices, and less harmful products and also closing the loop production. Chouinard claims that “the firm exists to make choices and ask questions and then to demonstrate that it is good business to other companies to benchmark.” This is evident as it is used as a reference point by other firms (Visser 156). The company has been in the market for an extended period and therefore has knowledge of what the market wants. The companies will be judged by both ethical and environmental performance. He claimed that a company should strive to be emulated by other firms for them to be sustainable. I agree that other companies will follow suite when a firm uses the principle of circularity and Chouinard’s claim. The other businesses will follow because the principal of circularity promotes sustainability and continuity. When the firm can produce its renewable energy, it will enable the firm to sustain its cost of energy. The claim also states that the company will be a leading example for others to follow and this will be as result of quality products, customer satisfaction, sustainability and responsibilities to the society, employees, shareholders and clients (Visser 156).Works CitedVisser, Wayne.
