Bill Gates was born on Oct. 28, 1955; Gates grew up in Seattle with his two sisters. His father is William H. Gates II, he’s a Seattle attorney. His mother, Mary Gates, was a schoolteacher, University of Washington regent, and chairwoman of United Way International. Bill Gates attended public elementary school and the private Lakeside School. There, he discovered his interest in software and began programming computers at age 13. In 1973, Gates entered Harvard University as a freshman. Bill Gates developed a version of the programming language BASIC for the first microcomputer the MITS Altair. That’s a old version of a computer before it got advanced with software. He opened Microsoft in 1975 with his childhood friend Paul Allen. He believed that the computer would be a very valuable tool on every desktop and every home. MITS bought the rights to Allen and Gatess BASIC for the Altair platform. That’s when Gates and Allen decided to leave Harvard. Bill Gates and Paul Allen decided to build the hardware for a desktop personal computer in 1980 for IBM. The first versions of the Windows OS did not sell well as stand-alone applications but started to be shipped pre-installed on many systems. by the late-1980s Microsoft Windows had begun to make serious headway into the IBM-compatible PC software market. The release of Windows 3.0 in 1990 was a tremendous success, selling around 10 million copies in the first two years. Microsoft eventually went on to be the largest software company in the world.
