In Shakespeares play, Macbeth, Macbeth himself demonstrates what could happen if you dont stick to your conscience. Macbeth is the main character. In the play, he starts off as being a loyal noble soldier, this then leads to him been Thane of Cawdor. Then eventually been the King of Scotland. He doesnt get these positions without doing deeds of which he may regret and feel full of guilt for going through with these certain acts.
Some people say that three witches are to blame for the downfall of Macbeth as they possibly played a major influence on the actions of which he took. Macbeth was walking with his friend, and fellow soldier at arms, Banquo. They preached to Macbeth exclaiming “hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor, thou shalt be King hereafter.” The Witches could of heard a rumour about Macbeth Been promoted to Thane of Cawdor, so thought stir up a story to twist a mans mind. This suggests that they had been despised for so long as outcasts, and after all this time they sought revenge. Yet to Banquo they said little, apart from. He will not be king himself, but that he will have kings. Personally I dont think they are to blame for Macbeths actions, but I think they played a key role of his paranoia. I assume this because if they hadnt said a word to Macbeth, then perhaps he would not have got these few words stuck in his brain; it is his fault for taking so much interest in a prophecy from people who were despised and looked down on like filth and muck.
Many say Lady Macbeth is also one to blame as she too played another major influence on the actions he undertook. She manipulated Macbeth in every way she saw fitting. He wrote her a letter about what the three witches had said. Being cunning, scheming woman as she was, she devised a plot, to get Macbeth to be the leader of the monarchy, Lady Macbeth seems to of thought of the evil side of the letter so her husband, Macbeth can fulfil the prophecy. Bloodthirsty as she is, she is going to have to try and persuade him a little bit more, so that he follows through with her plan. She approached Macbeth with her plot to kill King Duncan. Macbeth, although he is wanting the prophecy to come true, and become king, lacks the enthusiasm and determination as Lady Macbeth does, to commit the murder. Lady Macbeth urges Macbeth to act on his wish or he will think of himself as a coward. Her manipulative words soon rub off and Macbeth and he is willing to go through with the plan. I think Lady Macbeth is half of the fault of his downfall, as she was constantly egging him on and even played an accomplice to murder, as she took the daggers from Macbeth after he had committed treason against the king he was so loyal too. One time she even accused him of not been a man and wanted to be unsexed so she could have the power of a man, so that she could go through with the murder herself. After the plot had been accomplished, she kept washing her hands
