The Fall of the Kingdom
1. The point of view in the Fall of the Kingdom is omniscient third-person.
2. I think the author uses this point of view to tell this story because in this way she can jump around from character to character and to different places, other than staying with a singular character the whole time.
3. It would be different if it were told from a different point of view because then, as previously mentioned, the author would have to stay with one character the whole time. This would detract from the story because the story is set in many different places, with different characters at each. If told from 1st person, the author would not be able to create this effect of many different things happening at once. For example, at one point in the story, Soraya is in the desert, Kavi is captured by the Hrum, and Jiaan is with the Farsalan Army.
4. This point of view adds to the story because then many things can happen at once instead of following the actions and thoughts of a single person. The same example from question 3 could apply here.
5. This point of view limits the story in no apparent way to me. I firmly believe this point of view adds greatly to the story. If I had to name detraction to the story, I would say that it does not allow the reader to delve as deeply into the mind of a character as a 1st person point of view would. An example of this is when Soraya is in the Suud camp, and the reader cannot fully understand her sense of awe.
6. This point of view positively affects my responses to the character. It allowed me to grasp the enormity of the world of Farsala better when I could see the characters all doing different things in their place.
7. My response is influenced by how much the narrator knows sometimes because I cannot fully understand what the characters are
