Stilsim Situational Analysis
StilSim Personnel IntroductionAssignment 1-2: Situation AnalysisNatalie ClarkFranklin UniversityBSAD 495: Business Strategy CapstoneNovember 9, 2018Situation AnalysisThis analysis will serve as a quick situational overview of the personnel industry and show where StilSim stands in that industry. It will include, based off of compiled, examined, and interpreted data, a personnel industry overview, a brief background on StilSim, and employee and market forces that are affecting the growth of the business.  Industry OverviewStaffing agencies provide flexibility, support, and opportunities to both companies and employees. “The staffing industry, comprised of more than 20,000 staffing firms and nearly 15 million staffing employees, contributes $150 billion to the U.S. economy through temporary and contract staffing, recruiting and permanent placement, outsourcing and outplacement, and human resource consulting” (American Staffing Association, 2018). Although StilSim only deals with staffing and recruiting, this makes the staffing industry a huge force in the U.S. economy.         Over the years, the staffing industry has undergone a significant change in employment statistics, worker environments, and technological advances. A recent newspaper article highlighted the Governor’s Report mentioning of hiring trends for suppliers of medical personnel (StilSim Article 1-7). The same newspaper states that local firms would likely be increasingly hiring temporary employees with specialized skills in office and administrative support as well as healthcare to reduce costs and provide the necessary experience in certain types of work (StilSim Article 1-7).
Company HistoryStilSim personnel was founded by Rusty Stillman and Bill Simmons in Capital City 25 years ago. While Stillman has passed away, Simmons is the President and currently running the company. StilSim has a very diverse workforce that offers a full set of services to its clients. They cater to multiple industries by providing quality employees that meet their client’s needs. Due to success of the company, StilSim has expanded to Lakeside and Mountainview. In order to ensure continued growth, StilSim must clarify its mission, goals, and strategy while ensuring that they are more aligned to today’s changes in the staffing environment. Current Situation        Mr. Simmons wants me to pinpoint the reason why profits continue to decline. According to Simmons and the financial statements I was able to review, profits have been declining for the last few years consecutively. Initially, Simmons thought billing was dropping due to new competition and Internet-based companies, but after meeting with a colleague he’s not so sure anymore. Another employee stated profits declining was due to clients who had hard to fill positions that we were going to lose anyway.
