The Best of Louis Armstrong
I choose Louis Armstrong as my jazz artists, because I felt he was one of the most influential leaders of the 20th century. One of his most memorable songs was “What a wonderful World” which happens to be the first song on the CD. Louis Armstrongs voice in this song is so deep and unique. His sound is so original because no one ever listened to sounds like him. I felt as though he choose this song as number one because it is the most popular. The music is brilliant when I hear the horns the first image that comes to my head is doves. The song just makes you appreciate the world we live in. His voice is deep, slow, and in sync with the song. Louis Armstrong describes things such as the rainbow, trees, and the sky. He is looking at the brighter side of life. This song is very uplifting and contains a lot of emotion. He describes how he hears babies cry and watch them grow. The music almost sounds like that of a sad story.

The next song is entitled “Hello Dolly”. In the introduction I can hear the sound of the piano. The song is more upbeat and fast paced. In the song Louis in introducing himself to this character named dolly. He later is complimenting dolly by saying she looks well and is still growing strong. In this song I also hear the harmonica which is almost obsolete nowadays. I havent heard one of these instruments in a long time so it almost sounded brand new to me. In this song I can also hear the saxophone and trumpets playing. This song definitely involves a lot more instruments. I have the feeling that Dolly is a white girl who Louis Armstrong seems to have a crush on.

The third song is entitled “Dream a Little Dream of Me.” I am introduced by the saxophone. Louis Armstrong begins describing the night. In most of Louis Armstrong songs I notice that he loves describing his environment. It is as though he love the earth which god has put him on. Most of all I think he loves the peaceful night and the stars which is displayed in his songs. He also describes the birds singing in the trees. He wants the person who he is in love with to dream about him. He believes that sweet dreams will leave all worries behind you. He also mentions that he is craving her kiss.

The next song is introduced by the piano the name of it is “Cabaret”. In the song he mentions that life is a gamble. What he is saying in this song is to do put down what youre doing and listen to this song. The cabaret is used for celebrating and obviously sells alcohol. He describes life as a cabaret so hes saying come joins me in this celebration. He mentions what good is sitting alone in a room. He basically wants you to get enjoyment out of life. Louis Armstrong is basically saying lets make everyday a holiday. The horns and trumpets play a major role in this song.

The fifth song is entitled “That Lucky Old Sun”. I can hear the sound like that such of angels singing. He describes getting up in the morning and being out of a job. He says the lucky old sun has nothing to do but roll around all day. What he is saying the while we are working and slaving the sun is having a good time. He says that he sweats until he turns gray. Louis Armstrong in this song wishes he could switch places with the sun. In this song he is also talking of paradise, on which he calls on the lord. He wants the sun to show him the way to the river and wash all of his troubles away. The angels fit this song because just like them he wants his piece of paradise. He tells the Lord hes fighting with tears all in his eye. The sun is described as rolling around heaven all day.

The sixth track is named “I Still Get Jealous.” In this song he mentions dolly again. He mentions how people often get jealous when he is walking around with Dolly because people feel as though she is too
