Factors For Success
The four factors which influence students success that I choose to examine were percentage of mothers who graduated with a bachelor’s degree or higher, the percentage of low income rates, number of homeless children, and the percentage of children enrolled in head start. In order to determine which school is most successful, I compared these factors with the towns graduation rates, dropout rates, attendance rates, and the average SAT scores for reading, math, and writing.
Influence of These Factors
Children who have mothers who graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree or higher are more likely to stay in school because their parents want to see them succeed the same as they did, and push their children to do the best they can in school. It also has an influence because mothers with a bachelors degree don’t need to work as much as a mother who is stuck working for minimum wage because she has no degree. When a parent is home, it’s harder for kids to neglect their school responsibilities. The percentage of low-income rates is a factor of success because children who grow up poor, are more likely to quit school and get a full time job to help support the household. They may also have a crappy living environment, which can affect completion of homework. Homeless children are FAR more likely to give up on school, because they have nowhere to complete their work, and want to avoid being made fun of by other classmates. Lastly, the percentage of children in head start is a contributing factor because families usually put their children in head start so they have a place to go when they work throughout the day. You would think children in head start would have a higher chance of succeeding in school, but it actually has the opposite effect. I believe this is because children who are able to stay home with their mother/father may learn easier from their own parents, as compared to some random teacher. More learning = more knowledge and more knowledge = better grades and success rates.
The Four Factors in East Greenwich
In East Greenwich, 70% of mothers graduated with a bachelor’s degree or higher. The percentage of low-income family is a tiny 6%. There’s a total of 0 homeless children that live in East Greenwich. And lastly, there are only 3% of children enrolled in head start.
The Results (East Greenwich)
Out of East Greenwich, Coventry, and Providence, the school system in East Greenwich has proven to be the most successful. The towns high schools attendance rate in 2015 was 98%, and only 2% of students were absent for more than 18 days. A total of 94% of students graduated in 2015, and only 2% of students dropped out of this school system. The average SAT scores for critical reading was 568, the average in the math portion was 572, and the average in
