An investigation to find out how changing the concentration of hydrochloric acid affects the rate of reaction.
In this experiment I will investigate the relationship between the concentration of the hydrochloric acid and the rate of a reaction. To find this out I will react different concentration of hydrochloric acid and magnesium, from there I will monitor the gas (hydrogen) produced and analyse the results.

Prediction
My prediction was that the higher the concentration of hydrochloric acid the quicker the magnesium would react this predation was proved correct after I looked through my table of results and compared it with my prediction. The higher the amount of hydrochloric acid we had with less amount of mixed water made the reaction quicker. To conclude I predict the higher amount of the hydrochloric acid the faster the rate of reaction therefore the quicker the gas will be produced in the specific time interval.

Preliminary
I carried out a preliminary experiment t to see if I needed to make any changes to the experiment, in the preliminary we only used two different concentrations (100%-20ml and 50%-10ml) we got told we had to have at least five different concentrations in the real experiment, these were 100% acid, 100% water, 50% water & 50% acid, 75% water & 25% acid, 75% acid & 25% water, this is my preliminary results table which I did before my real one to see if I was going to make any changes to my original results

Method
This is my method for my chemistry coursework this is what I did for my preliminary too however I changed the concentrations etc..
