What is a hero?
A hero is someone who tries to have a positive impact on someone else. A hero can be a person like a teacher to someone like a surgeon trying to save a life. In some instances, a person does not realize the impact they are making on the individuals around them or they are not trying to make an impact at all. For example, someone is walking along the beach and notices a small child having a hard time making a sand castle, that person should casually walk over and help the child out by showing them how to make one. Little does the person helping the child know, the child now could become an architect for a career one day. The child may not know the person who just helped him but that person may have just made a positive impact on the child. Security guards, secretaries, teachers aids, and nurses are heroes to. These people are not the in their main focus in their career fields such as police, bosses, teachers, and doctors but without the aiding hands of them the careers would not be possible. Nurses in their field of work socialize with their patients, watch over them and make them feel more comfortable while they are staying at the hospital. Secretaries keep things in order in a business or in their own field of work. Teachers aids try to help the student and teachers while they are working or trying to understand something. Security guards stay on guard in a specific area such as a warehouse full of valuable items. All these people are known as heros to other people because they keep others safe and give them a helping hand when they need one (James & Merickel, 2013).
A hero is someone who stands up for what they think is right and for what is wrong, but everyone has different definitions for what they think a hero really is. Some may say a hero is a man out of a comic book, but some others may say its their closest friend or someone they barely know. In the story “From Bodega Dreams” I think the hero is Mr. Tapia because in the story a student in Mr. Blessingtons class gets in a fight with the teacher. The fight got started when Mr. Blessington crumbled up Sapos drawing. When he crumbled up the drawing, Sapo got up and tried to walk out of the room. Mr. Blessington then put Sapo in a headlock, Sapo got out of the head lock, went around and jumped onto the teachers back and bit over by his neck. After that Sapo went into the bathroom and rinsed out his mouth. That is when Mr. Tapia came in and told Sapo to lie to the police so he didnt go to juvenile detention. Mr. Tapia saved Sapo from going to jail and thats why I think that he is the hero in the story. In the story The Train from Hate an African American and her son are making a far walk to somewhere called Checotah to shop for supplies. On their way to the shop in Checotah a train stops to pick them up. When they boarded the train they did not have a choice but to find
