It is different how kids perform during their games than in practice. During games, kids are placed in a position were there is pressure and nervousness which will cause them to perform badly. What I learned from reading chapter 9 is that coaches should be like a cheerleader in a game. They should advocate for the players no matter how the kids do in the game. I also learned how preparing your team for the games is important. There are no guarantees in a game that his team will win, but he can go a long way to prepare his players to deal with the predictable pressure situations in a game. The steps in preparing your team for games are to have a game plan, make adjustments, and pep talks.
Pressure is one of the important things a coach should deal with a player. It is one of the aspects that degrade oneЃfs performance, but pressure is not always a bad thing. I learned that some nervousness is a good thing because it is a form of energy and energy is required to give a good performance. Coaches play an important part of this role in pressure that it gives the kids the opportunity to deal with it and give them the support to it.
Chapter 10. Handling Parents
From reading chapter 10, I learned that dealing with parents is not always easy. There are many sources of parental misbehavior and part of it comes from a normal phenomenon of distorted perceptions. Some of it can be traced to a desire to relive lost days of glory through a child, and some of it comes from a subconscious concern that other people judge one by how oneЃfs child behaves in sports. I also learned what parents want from their kidsЃf coach. They want to be in the information loop, want to hear good things about their kids, to see their kids play, and to be included.
