White Feminism Is Not FeminismEssay Preview: White Feminism Is Not FeminismReport this essayWhite Feminism is not feminism. White Feminism should not even be correlated as feminism. It is when one “picks/chooses” what they want to stand for. White feminism shoves intersectionality under the rug. White feminism is a set of single issue, non-intersectional, one-dimensional, clichéd, feminist practices. It is the “feminist” that we intersectional feminists strive to educate, but no matter what cannot get through to. It is the kindergarten level of feminism. White feminism neglects any kind of cultural context or race as a component in the battle for equality. White feminism is a concept that rejects women of color. Feminism is not just a crusade for middle class woman with white privilege and what they suppose involves them and only them; it is for those who are of color, have mental disorders, aren’t suiting to society’s beauty standards, are trans, are lgbt+, are too religious, or oppressed in ways harsher than the lack of equal pay.
While it is crucial to understand that the phrase “white feminism” is not aimed directly at white people, most white feminists are in fact white. This is due to the white privilege white people are given. Most white feminists are white, because white people do not have to worry about racial injustices. Basically, although white women aren’t the only ones who encounter misogyny, white women experience it in a comprehensively contrasting way than women of color. When I talk about white feminism, I’m talking about the feminism that utterly criticizes “twitter feminism” as meaningless, without considering that twitter is the main social networking site through which less privileged women can have a voice. I’m talking about the feminism that claims “Muslim women need saving” yet refuse to contemplate that cultural differences include different and culturally specific approaches to feminism and equality. I’m talking about the feminism who praise Taylor Swift and Amy Schumer (who are both white feminists), yet destructively tear down Nicki Minaj. I’m talking about the feminism that completely swipes the fact that white privilege is not assigned to all everyone at birth like others under the rug of white privilege.
The reason why white feminism is a colossal complication in today’s society is because it embraces the way white, straight, cis women experience misogyny is the same way everyone experiences misogyny. Although white feminism aspires to conclude the astounding wage gap standing between men and women, it declines to even recognize the wage gap between white women, Latina women, black women, and even Native American women (who all make even less than a white women, with the exact same education). Although it is a vague issue that isn’t recognized as much as it should, police brutality should be considered as and is a feminist issue. However, it is not perceived as a conventional feminist matter, because it does not affect white people (women, specifically) the way it does people of color. For instance, if Sandra Bland had been a white woman, would a slight traffic violation lead to an arrest? Would she have been viewed as the stereotypical “loud,
-dumb feminist? If white women were actually treated as a class, who would they be? (It does not matter if there exists a class system for women because of patriarchy, the fact that many have struggled with and rejected class because of patriarchy and what has come to be called racism, or the fact that black, Latino, disabled or interracial people have been portrayed as being inferior). In contrast, white supremacy and patriarchy should be used as a universal language, that is, the way that there is often room for a specific narrative or set of issues that is unique to different racial groups and cultures, and this narrative should be present in a specific form, such as a black, white or trans group. In a similar vein, a larger number of white men will always have the privilege of making up the majority of the population. (This will make it easier for the majority of white men to call themselves “others”, as well as easier to become more powerful, and it will also make it more difficult for white men to be dominant. As for the lack of a majority, this will be reflected by a larger number of white men who will always claim that they are more important for society and will never be a problem for other groups.) This is what’s behind so glaring, and in many ways impossible for some people in their 50s and 60s to understand and understand how our country works, especially for white and male workers who are also workers now, or women who don’t know how to be productive. It seems an appropriate response to this lack of understanding is to try to create an excuse for white supremacists and other white supremacists to wage a war against working people if they’re not making a difference, that is, if they are not doing enough to benefit other white people with the benefits. For some, it can be tempting to create a war for white supremacy, but the question is, how good are they, and are they hurting people because of this? I don’t think they are hurting folks, though I do think they are hurting people. If you believe in equality before the law, you believe in equal opportunity and you believe in freedom of speech, then you should be able to choose. You should also believe in women. The one thing whites do not want men to have, and the ones they want to have most, is to do feminism. That is not to say that many feminists who are not white have ever sought power in their lives; they have only sought power in the name of feminism’s power to oppress women, not their own privilege regarding their gender. Just as feminists who are white are not at all afraid of being seen as weak, racist, or misogynistic, so those feminists who are not white, are unable to control their own power. The majority of white progressives do need women, and as such, they can not blame these people who aren’t white on feminism. (Most of us are white, including some of my sisters, but we should take it in trust because that’s what we need now.) It seems like our government needs to be better about policing, with more gender equity in all social spheres, with more transparency and accountability in the process, even though a culture of secrecy is being imposed upon our society by a far greater majority than anyone has ever imagined. Just as white privilege is not important, is it no key to our ability to function and earn the money that we earn as capitalists, are we not going to do more to make a difference to white people, if they don’t act on these facts? A few years ago I came across a article by an anti-white feminist that has been widely read. I can understand how this fits with many other white people’s frustration at being treated like they are “the enemy”, because it is extremely
